My Vacation at the City
MY VACATION AT THE CITY

I can still remember the time I went to the city with my family just to have a bit of relaxation since we are over and done with our periodical examinations. Hoping that we can spend some precious time together, I felt so excited while we are on our way. I expected a lot of jokes and laughter, and full of satisfaction when we get there. After a long journey on a muddy and terribly devastated nautical highway, we reach the city, the only city and the capital of our province. We stayed there for a couple of days. On the first day of our vacation, I and my brother almost spent the whole day passing to and through small stores in the market as if we are looking for something to buy but the truth is we are just enjoying ourselves in window shopping. That is the usual thing that we do in the city while my mother is very busy with her facial and foot spa sessions and my father is on the same old motor shops looking for whatever he can add to the overcrowded accessories of our car. When we get tired and hungry we will visit our favourite fast food with the mouth-watering chicken joy and delicious pasta. In the afternoon before the sunset, we went to the seaside. Brendon and I run along the shore and we pick some shells and white stones. We put it in a bag and place it at the back of the car. When we got tired, we just sat on the benches and shared some jokes and funny stories until the sun was gone. We ate at our favourite fast food chain near the park. After the satisfying dinner with the whole family we went to my father’s office to spend the night. According to him this is the safest and most affordable place in the city, I agree simply because I know it’s free. Our second day was more serious, we visit the church in the morning to attend the mass and the next scene is the reunion with our aunties, uncles, and some cousins. We had some bonding moments with them. All of us gathered in the nearest park. My brother and I played different outdoor games with our cousins while the elders were busy chatting and laughing on their stories and jokes. I feel so tired but honestly I enjoyed our vacation, so fulfilling and everything was done according to the plan. After this trip I hope I can go back home with peace of mind but believe me I can’t, because of a big question that remained in my mind until now brought about by what I have seen. Are you not worried? Look beside you, look behind you, everything around us show that there's something wrong. A lot of street children were begging for some food or money. Beggars are multiplying every day. Read the newspaper, criminality rate is getting high. Investors were losing their capital tending those big companies to stop operations and close permanently. More and more problems are out breaking. Where are the promises of the politicians during election campaign, “we will generate more jobs and eradicate in the government even the shadow of graft and corruptions”? Try to have a glance on our statistics today; unemployment rate was more than doubled. We are now number five on the list of the countries in the world who have the most number of people that are experiencing hunger. I just want to know if there is still a better future left for the youth like me. Where shall we go after we receive our diplomas if today giants of business world are diminishing one by one? Maybe we can say that we are terribly affected by the global economic crisis but the question is, have we done our share to find the remedy? Is it really global crisis or maybe the wrong policies and decisions made by the political leaders of different nations in this world? Thanks for the powerful voice I have heard coming from President Barack Obama on the day that he was elected as the president of the United States of America, “together we can stand and work hand on hand to attain our very long dreamed goal”. Then lastly he shouted “yes we can”. That voice gave me a little hope that the gate of a better future will be opened for the younger generation like us who are striving a lot at our very young age. I really hope that we can.

Earlier that day, my family and I took a serene walk down the pier. We saw fishermen catching fish and people getting ready to go fishing in a boat. When we got back to our petite cabin, we prepared to go frolic at the beach. At the beach, my brother and I went swimming. The massive waves were uncommon at Capitola, so we were cheerful we got to swim in the immense waves. After a terrific ten to fifteen minutes of…

I was born in 1947, the youngest in the family, in the town of Shumen by the seaside on the cost of the Black sea. We had a two story house on the hills. In the winter season the streets were covered with four feet of deep snow. In spring, Lipton trees bloomed with flowers, lining on both sides of the streets. The smell of its fragrance still remains in my memory. In the summer after school, we were vacationing for three months in the beach house by the Black Sea. My father stayed behind to provide for us. Because of his love, goodness and kindness of his heart to our family, he struggled a lot to make up with the new government…

The children of Puerto Rico inspired me to achieve mine goals in life. I know that sounds confusing since I am not of Hispanic decent, so let me explain. The summer of sophomore year, I traveled on a mission trip to Puerto Rico with my school. I visioned the trip as a paradise vacation. However, I was wrong. Though I encountered many experiences, there is one that I will never forget. After long hours of working in the community, we ended the day by visiting a boys’ orphanage for mentally and physically disabled. Upon arrival, the kids were lined up at the gate waving and smiling at us ready to give us hugs even though they did not know us at all. While at the orphanage, a man outside was selling cakes and we decided to buy some for the boys.…

The all time awaited ‘Festival of Summer’ rushed in throughout the city of Omelas. Though as described, it is the city of happiness; not elaborating the happiness on the faces of people residing in it but because of the joy and unbounded pleasure of the city itself. The beauty of the city could be described by clear morning air snow, chirping of the birds in the blue skies, rigging of the boats, construction of the built houses and paintings; graffiti on walls, shimmering of tambourine and playing of songs and the children enjoying endlessly seem happy and singing. The people were cultured, old souls dressed in robes and babies in hand of merry women and strong headed men and youth. All in all, the city showered with bliss and contentment embraced in it. Everything seems to be so pleasing and good about the city, Omelas but the city was grounded by a darker fact having a filthy and ill minded feeble child who was allowed to stay in a room where nobody could help him in other ways and once the time comes, every growing child was made aware about this mysterious fact about the city. This fact gives an incredible impact on readers that despite of all the joys and celebrations in the city, presence of such a child was disturbing and though some lived by accepting the fact while others moved to an unknown place which was more incredible.…

I awoke with a pleasant touch on my shoulder. My blue cotton shirt was all wrinkled and my pants were wrinkled up, too. Then it came to my mind that I slept in too long. We needed to catch the 6:30 a.m. fly to Florida. Because this destroyed our plans, my mom and dad were making scrambled eggs with pancakes and some yummy bacon. I felt horrible about what happened because all of the things that my mom planned was gone. The whole reason we were going to go to Florida was to see our family that we have only seen once in our whole life. When we finished eating, we still remained at the kitchen table thinking of things that we could do. My mom gave the idea of going to the park and have a picnic but that didn’t sound that fun. Then I gave the idea of going to the water park. I and my brother Ethan were thrilled to go to the water park and couldn’t wait! We all piled into the car with our stuff and was now on the way to the water park.…

The ship was late because of the strong storm last night, just one hour ago we threw anchor in the small French seaport; the night train to Germany was gone. Therefore, I had to stay an extra night in a strange and unfamiliar place. Evening seemed to be boring, because there wasn’t any entertainment, except of dull music and boring conversation with completely strange companions. I wasn’t feeling like going to the hotel, so I just walked down the lit street, full of people, noise and music. At first I enjoyed walking through the provincial crowd but soon I became bored by all this intimacy of strangers, their laughter, they looked at me as it I was a stranger. I didn’t like how the light was pouring from thousands of sources, everything in this place was unpleasantly strange to me.…
