My Sociology Essays
SOCIOLOGY AND ME

Sociology can help me in many different ways. With knowledge in sociology, I can easily know some of the answers in the questions that arise about the society and some social institutions. It helps improve the communication between me and the place where I belong and stay with. It can always update me in my daily lives, like what is happening in the government, education, religions, and economy or to our social institutions which is the structure of our society. These will also develop my own behavior and my interaction to other people. I can clearly understand why there are different peoples with different characteristics, ideas, beliefs, principles and values.
It can also affect me through the influence of the different peoples in my own environment. It lets me know what is my role as a person connected or part of this institution. It helps widen my knowledge and give me ideas how to deal with different people with different personalities, beliefs and perspectives in life. With this, I can easily adapt with the environment I am with and be flexible wherever I can go. It strengthens my relationship with my family and helps us to understand each other and overcome the problem that occurs. It helps me also to understand and respect the different religions because I know that even though our religions are different, we still believe in one God whatever they called it. In terms of government personalities, I know we all still believe that whoever will be in the position will just be the same, but not all of them are just like that. Some of them also aim for the betterment of this country if we will just give them our cooperation and support just like our new administration right now. I know if we go hand in hand, this country will lift up and leave poverty and corruption. Believe in the power of cooperation among all people is also one of the way to achieve everyone’s goal.
Learning all about Sociology is such an easier way to do but gives me a

I remember watching and reading Super Size Me in middle school and Food INC. as well in high school. My initial reaction to Super Size Me was disgust. I found the way they treated chickens and how McDonald’s made their food disgusting. Just prior to viewing Super Size Me, I was already visiting fast food places like McDonald’s less frequently and after viewing Super Size Me I rarely ate at a fast food place. My visits to fast food places decreased at a rate to around once a year. However, as time passed my visits to fast food places slowly increased and by sophomore to junior year in high school I actually started to enjoy eating fast food again. By the time I saw Food INC around sophomore to junior year, I was desensitized to eating fast food because of the good taste, the speed, and especially the cheap prices. When I viewed Food INC for the first time in high school, I found it quite boring because I rationalized a belief that “food is food” so I didn’t care at all how food is made as long as it could fill my stomach.…

As settlement housing improves slum families. Many think it’s for pity. Some think it’s for the betterment of city families and neighborhoods. Jane Addams, a influential member of the movement says settlement houses help people “learn from life itself”. But Jane Addams wasn’t the only influential members of the movement. Ellen Gates star founded Chicago’s first “Hull House” in 1889. Along with many others, like Locust Street social settlement in Hampton, Virginia. Founded by Janie Porter Barett. Also the very first settlement house for African Americans. These settlement houses cultivated urban cities and helped keep responsibility for the urban poor. But the argument still stands whether it was for them and society or because they felt bad. Recent reports from Jane Addams say that she thinks "Private beneficence is totally inadequate to deal with the vast numbers of the city's disinherited." This being said at least Jane Addams supports the betterment of society.…

Sociology is the study of the society and the way people interact within it. The field of sociology and trying to study and understand it is very complicating due to the fact that it is such a wide topic. Feelings change along people and nobody can truly explain why people do the things they do. A student attempting suicide out of nowhere is unexplainable or even a random divorce. The unexplainable minds of people and random occurrences really interests me into pursuing this field.…

Gang violence has been causing problems in America since at least the latter half of the 20th century. Many cities are subject to have large gangs and this by no means is a good thing. To name a few cities New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit have been known to be grounds for all different sorts of gangs. Whether it is a biker gang such as the Hells Angels, or an African American street gang such as the Bloods or Crips, all across America we are seeing the concerns over crime rate increase while the crime and murder rate have gone down. Chicago is one of the biggest cities to have been prominent on recent increase in gang violence. Most people blame inner-city violence in Chicago on the existence of gangs. But I think that the murder rate remains high in Chicago because of the amount of illegal firearms in circulation. Thus, I hypothesize that a decrease in the number of illegal weapons will result in a decrease in the murder rate. Criminals with no prior gun experience that participate in violent gang activities have caused the murder rate to increase twenty five percent in the last year (Venkatesh, 2012).…

There is a saying that I hold close to my heart, it goes something like, “You cannot trip over things that are behind you”. This saying is applicable to both person life and to life in general. I hold the personal belief that one has to learn from past mistakes in order to avoid making similar ones in the future. This aspect is what sociology works with, the prevention of society to commit the same mistakes twice and in doing so help create a better society. Sociology is the scientific study of human society. The study covers topics such as society’s origins, development, organization, and institutions. It is important to understand the way society functions in order to formulate wise decisions for the development of the…

Having been drawn to the study of crime and criminal behaviour at a young age through watching television channels such as the Crime and Investigation Network, I have taken a keen interest in pursuing a degree in Criminology. This subject would be an excellent course for me to study at university considering my fascination in topics such as homicide, terrorism and violent crime. Crime series such as “Crimewatch”, “Killer Kids” and “Death Row Stories”, have had me hooked on not only the criminals but also on those who investigate and solve the crimes which they commit. I had long realised my eagerness for criminology, when I’d begun thinking about the ways in which I could expand my skills in this subject in order to obtain a career in the profession. Studying and examining criminal behaviour will prove to be challenging and intriguing, always providing me with new material to learn.…
