My Scoliosis Research Paper
When writing my application, I wasn’t able to share my personal story of my scoliosis. Scoliosis is a curvature in the spine. I was diagnosed with this disease when I was twelve years old. The reason I this is important for you to know is because living with scoliosis can be a life-long struggle. It also makes your upper body, from the torso to the neck, take on a very odd shape. In my case, though not by much, my left side is bigger than my right. This happens because my spinal curve is pushing toward the left side. My ribs also stick out, but not to badly. This is because my upper body is shorter than it should be; therefore, everything is being crammed together. Most times after having the proper surgery, the spinal curve is corrected the upper body fills out like it should be, and even though the sides are uneven, you can barely be able to tell.

In fact, I think I’m a stronger person because of it. Through this disease, I have become an overcomer. I’m an overcomer, because I live with pain that makes me want to scream at times. I have overcome challenges caused by the pain and nature of my scoliosis. I’ve spent hours doing therapy and weight lifting to help me gain a stronger back. I’ve had to teach myself how to have good posture. I’ve had to adjust my sleeping position at night so that I can sleep. But most importantly, I’m an encourager. My goal is to let people know that the pain can’t keep you from doing whatever you want. I have never let it stop me from pursuing my love of musical theatre. This is my world, and it’s extremely important to share it with
