Narrative Essay: Final Draft
My First Day Fright
Have you ever experience a moment where you have no idea where you are, and what you would have done in that particular moment? Well I have, and here is my story. It all started in late August of 2009, when millions of children across the country were looking forward to their first day of school. For me, I was not looking forward to start my first year of High School. I still had the middle school mentality. I was concerned that I was not ready for high school. I felt lost, confused, and anxious to this change.
On the morning of August 31, as soon as I set foot in the premises of Wheaton high school, reality kicked in and I felt lost in the new high school environment. As I approached the entrance, I heard a noisy hallway filled with students that were older than me. They screamed and shouted as they were happy to see their classmates again. As I stepped inside Wheaton High School, my mind was completely filled with the feeling of being lost. I asked myself, where should I go? Then a monotonous voice on the speaker said, “Welcome class of 2012.” A rowdy crowd of older students shouted “boo!” and chanted their class year. While standing against the locker, I heard a familiar voice called out my name, “Tho, over here!” I turned to see who called my name. Finally, I spotted the familiar faces of my friends. They approached me and asked if I knew which room I was placed in. Suddenly a loud bell rang, vibrating through the whole school. I rushed without writing down the room number.
As I begin to walk to class, I suddenly forgot where my room was located. I stood in the hallway completely confused as to what direction I should take. As I wondered around the school for minutes, a dark, tall, shadowy figure approached me and asked why I was not in class. I told him I was confused to where my class was located. He reached for his pocket and asked “What is your classroom number?” I

It was a normal morning at Wilson Middle School, for my friends and I. We all were just excited for the day because it was Friday. With me was, Brittany, Kirsten, Titi, Chloe, Ethan, and Lake. That wasn't all who was in the class, but that is who I was standing with. After homeroom, I came to Mrs.Grabel’s room. The class was loud for a while, but when the bell rang, we were all in our seats silent, because we didn’t want to make Mrs.Grabel mad. However, when we sat there, we realized Mrs.Grable wasn’t there. We all got really worried because she is always on top of her game. Then, something very strange happened.…

I was sitting in the classroom when the principal came on the intercom, announcing that the bells would be delayed, and those not staying after school to go to the cafeteria. So several classmates and I started headed to the lunchroom. As we walked in, teachers with panicky and terrified faces frantically directed us to the tables. People were whispering, crying, and yelling and screaming. I sat down at one of the long, smooth, freezing brown tables, waiting anxiously to hear what was happening. I looked around and saw ugly white walls and tons of people. As more students poured in the vast cafeteria, teachers and administrators were walking hurriedly around, with horrified faces, and tear marks streaming down their faces. I, as many others, looked puzzled, student to student, wondering what in the world was going on.…

As I sat in class, my mind started to walk out of the door that bounded me to consciousness. The teacher started to discuss to the class about the homework on Descartes's Rule of Signs, and to regain composure, I picked up my Calculus textbook that I borrowed from my teacher, but then put it down as realizations formed. The one reason that I was stuck in this mind-numbing class repeated in my head with the voices of my peers. The issue was rooted in the school that I attended previous to high school.…

The end of the day bell rings as I grab my notebooks and rush out of class. The hallways are loud as I hear lockers slamming shut. I jog towards my old red locker that was across the hall from the 10th grade math room. I twist the combination in, 8-23-2. I hear a click as I swing open the rusty door and shove my notebooks into my denim backpack. I close my locker after grabbing my bag; running towards the exit, trying to race my sister to her car.…

As I got off the big, yellow school bus, I walked through the bright, double red doors, just to find the butterflies that have been hiding in my stomach. One of my friends was even in my homeroom, so we walked together, trying to find our way to room A107.…

The last time I remember something as huge as starting in high school was having to move to Oregon from Alaska, but for better or for worse, here I am, attempting to make my mark on this big blue Earth. However, Highschool was never always just peaches, cream, rainbows and unicorns. If I’m to be one hundred percent honest here, I was legitimately terrified of it, whether it be the totally reasonable fear of being stuffed into a locker by a bully or getting lost in a labyrinth of corridors and passages of infinite classes and broom closets. But those fears never truly emerged up until the final days of freedom that remained from my graduation of 8th grade. As the days drew nearer, so did my fear reaching the brim of a breakdown. I was scared,…

As I stepped through the doors of high school on the first day of school, I had little to no care about two things. I didn’t care about how weak my muscles were and I certainly didn’t care enough to do my homework right when I got home. It is December now and I care a whole lot more than I originally did. I took longer in the morning or I’d spend 15 minutes before I go to bed to pick to pick out my outfits, I’d cram before exams or quizzes, I’d pay attention more in class and procrastinate less after school for homework. Sometimes, I’d compare the amount of time I had then and the amount of time I have now, and what I concluded was that in the beginning of school, my time was the amount of a water bottle, and now it seemed like at least a pond. The problem with my goals, I now realize, is that they had been too hard to accomplish for me when I first set them. I did not start slow, I wrote down my goals as if they were easy to accomplish, and back then, they seemed that way. I have learned that…

Thinking back to my freshman year at Crandall High School, the first thing that comes to my mind is my first day. I walked in the door, only to be breath taken of how big the school was. I remember thinking to myself I might as well make myself comfortable here. This is where I will be spending my next four years. I tried out for the Gold Dusters and I made the teams. I worked really hard on all of my school work and I hoped to make my parents proud.…

As I opened the glass doors on a blustery fall morning, strange faces walked past me. Everyone looked at me and silently asked themselves: Who is this new girl? Why haven’t I seen her in any of my classes? I was alone in this world of people I had never seen before. Leaving my old friends and classmates behind, little did I know that sophomore year was the year my education was going to be more than just textbooks and novels.…

“BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP” the alarm screams out louder than ever. “It’s only 6 am “I moan tiredly to myself. AS I slowly get ready for my last day of school as a year 12, ready to graduate, I start to think about the previous years of my school life. I slip out of the creased sheets laid on my bed, and I get a flashback of back when I was in kindergarten. I was just another kid in the New Year. I had no idea where anything was and no friends.…

Flash back a couple years. It’s sixth grade, my first year of middle school. I was so scared, walking into a big school, not knowing anyone. How could I possibly do it? Absolutely nothing in this known world can break the silence—the room was lifeless. The floorboard painfully cries under the teacher’s fantastic high-heeled shoes; it invades the monastic stillness. Under the scrawls of a madman, written in a jet-black marker that has seen the end of its days a long time ago, slivers of the once pure whiteboard remains. My eyes dart towards the window as I stare at the barren tree branches; they shiver, afraid, in the thick cold and velvety air of winter. As my stoic teacher slowly raises from her seat the creak of her chair invades the classroom; her thin lips turn upward and she stares down each student with her hawk-like glare. My heart races and I start to breathe harder and harder—faster and faster. The…

I approached the door of Kingston Elementary School with my mom by my side, this was reassuring. I knew she wasn’t going to be with me all day. I had never felt so apprehensive in my life. The door closed behind me and all of the sudden I was stricken with fear. There were so many people around me. Most of them were running around, zooming past me like racing cars, narrowly missing me by tiny fractions. I felt so alone, like a stray dog lost in the middle of a big city. All I wanted was to be home again. I knew that the best thing to do was to take a deep breathe. I would soon realize that everything would be ok. I then began to walk down the hall. I had to weave my way through the crowd. I did not want to get run over by the older children. As I walked, my eyes scanned around the hallway, trying to find someone I knew. It seemed impossible. After feeling like I had been wondering for hours, finally, I heard someone call my name. I felt relief. She was standing with a large group of familiar face that I had recognized from preschool. Suddenly I started to feel better as they approached me and began to welcome me. It was a comfort to know that I was not alone anymore. Then my mom walked me down the hall to class.…
