Miami Valley Hospital is an 848 bedded hospital with several units, those of which I had the privilege of working in were the intensive care unit (ICU), the burn unit, and the behavioral health unit. I also had the opportunity to spend time in the main pharmacy as well as the emergency department. I worked with pharmacists Beth Quedenfeld, Michelle Inman, and Jen Welch along many technicians.…

The use of pharmacological treatment to manage behavioral problems, such as EBD and ADHD, is a frequently used, yet highly controversial topic. Medication seems to be the quick, convenient solution to behavioral problems. Research, for the most part, has shown positive results regarding medicating children with behavioral disorders, according to Rosenberg, Westling, and McLeskey (2007). However, many concerns, regarding the long-term health and social impact of this type of intervention, are being raised. Although medication may seem like the easiest solution, many wonder whether it is the most advantageous solution.…

Completing these courses was highly beneficial. I am always worried about making errors especially during the medication administration process. With the many interruptions that may erupt, I honestly always do my best to remain diligent. I do my best to always go through check the six rights of medication as a prevention measure. You must be able to understand what the person requires, act on it from the initial information until the matter is concluded, pass on the information to the relevant person/s to ensure the patient’s needs are met, this process takes time to have faith in your colleagues, to challenge them if you feel the right information or task has not been acted on correctly, it takes time to build these relationships, it is a learning process and knowledge can be gained for the benefit of all concerned. The more you get involved in communication, meetings and discussions the better for all it will get you out of some awkward situations, and avoid arguments.…
I have five goals for this clinical rotation. Once again I want to be organized for my assessments. I also want to make sure that I include the client, every step of the way. I want to stay focused and not get distracted easily as well. I also want to apply what I learned in class when doing my assessments. Not only do I want to apply what I've learned, but i also want to understand it. Today went well. I enjoyed learning about a thrill. I really enjoyed feeling and listening to one. I'm glad that I now understand what the textbook was meaning when it talked about a bruit. I felt better at doing the assessments today as well. Practice makes…

Different Sims-lab from school and patient medication reconciliation, which I performed at clinical rotation in IPPE-III served as a foundation for me to participate in this activity. For example, I had the opportunity to interview standardized patient during Sims-lab which included work up a patient before the interview, then interview standardized patient, step outside of room to assess the patient profile and come up with a plan, then discuss the plan with the patient and write the soap note. Since, that activity I was curiously waiting for an opportunity to perform such task to get familiarized with it. In addition, patient medication reconciliation activity at clinical rotation in IPPE-III, I had similar opportunity to work with the patient…

The United States has some of the best healthcare in the world. Research and advances in technology have created a very reliable system for Americans to have optimal health. Firstly, it is really important to establish a good rapport when dealing with patients. A good rapport can create a relationship that is built on trust and commitment. Through this, patient can share private medical information without hesitations. An example of this was when the pharmacist greeted the patient and asked how can she be of help. She also showed empathy when she found out that the patient was in pain and told the patient she’d prepare the prescription right away.…
