My Philosophy of Service

What is my Philosophy of Service?
My philosophy of service is to treat everyone equally. To remember that everyone is an individual that should be treated with respect, despite their religious belief, skin colour or size.
Where did I get this philosophy?
My philosophy was developed over a period of time. The largest contributing factor to my philosophy is the word of God, the Holy Bible. Through reading and studying the Word of God there are many scriptures that inspirer’s me to have a better attitude towards others. The second largest contributing factor to my philosophy was personal experience. Throughout my life, in particular the last 4 years I came to the conclusion that you must be respectful to everyone. It not only builds your character but it also brings positivity and gives a sense of self-worth to others. The last contribution to my philosophy was given by my parents. At a very young age they taught me to be respectful to others an intern they will have respect for me.
How does this philosophy impact my everyday life?
This philosophy impacts my life in a number ours ways. Firstly, it allows me to establish a greater relationship with my immediate family as well as my extended family. Due to this philosophy developing my character I was able to develop into a productive individual in my society, despite the misconception and negative opinions many may have about young adults. As I share my philosophy with others it encourages others to adapt this philosophy and become better individuals.

In order to concisely put my view of how service should be executed is as Ernesto Sirolli summed up in his Ted Talk , “Shut up and Listen”. In order to truly serve a person must know what the community needs and then figure out how to best provide it. Doing otherwise I believe is imposing yourself or your group on another that you feel is lesser than me. And it's not going to be that successful but rather a hassle for the community. Change and service comes in many shapes and sizes, they can be direct and hands on or indirect. A “good” or “meaningful” service experience may not be going to another country to build houses for week when you have no more experience than creating buildings with your Lego set. Sometimes it's helping cut vegetables at the soup kitchen because it is understaffed or providing the funds for the community to help…

According to the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS), there are many ethical standards that address diversity in service to our clients. The NOHS states that human service professionals ensure that their values or biases are not imposed upon their clients to not hinder the diverse background that the clients we serve come from. Furthermore, NOHS states that human service professionals are to provide services without discrimination or preference in regards to age, ethnicity, culture, race, ability, gender, language preference, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, nationality, or other historically oppressed groups. Another ethical standard stated by the NOHS is that human service professionals expected to be knowledgeable about their cultures and communities within which they practice and are aware of multiculturalism in society and its impact on the community as well as individuals within the community. Human service professional must respect the cultures and beliefs of the individual and groups that they serve and are aware of social and political issues that differentially affect clients from diverse backgrounds. Lastly the NOHS states that human service professionals advocate for social justice and seek to eliminate oppression as well as raise awareness of underserved…

Growing up, my parents pushed me to be the best I could be. They let me make mistakes and used them as teachable moments. They taught me the importance of work ethic, reliability, and trustworthiness. Being reliable and trustworthy is important in both personal and work relationships. They also taught me to be kind. I strive to be kind to everyone, and treat them with respect. I try look at situations from someone else's point of view. We never know what is going on in someone else's life, so I feel it is better to treat them with kindness and respect versus being rude or disrespectful. If someone is having a bad day, I don't want to make it any worse. As I got older, I came to the quick realization that not everyone's views are the same. My parents taught me to accept people for who they are and not to hold it against them when they have do not have the same views as I do. One thing we all have in common is that we are human. We should treat each other with the respect and dignity that we would like to be treated with.…

    Unit 31 Sensory loss

    • 1106 Words
    • 4 Pages

Any type of sensory loss can cause people to experience the ways in which society treats them differently. People often believe that any type of sensory loss also reduces people’s capacity to understand. Individuals may feel a loss of independence, as carers, family members, or members of the public can sometimes over compensate by doing too much for the person and not allowing the individual to adapt and learn new skills. This could lead to anxiety or depression as they have not been able to adjust to their loss, being too dependent on others for support. Sufferers may lose confidence in social situations, if not communicated with appropriately or being dismissed due to their loss. People with any kind of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the Equality Act and the Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is hard to convince an employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is unable to do a job. Attitudes such as these can make it difficult for people to maintain self-esteem and can destroy confidence, with the result that they will attempt less.…

I apply my philosophy of life by looking to God for guidance, and trusting Him. Honoring God, the source of true wisdom, leads to being honored. Fearing God and keep his commandments is the truly wise course. I apply my philosophy of life by representing myself as a young catholic man, meaning whether I am playing basketball or walking around town, I act like a Christian and I try to live the life God wants me to. I believe that it is crucial for one to represent them self as a Christian and not in a satanic way. I try to treat everyone with the dignity and respect that God wants treat others with. God told us that we do not have to like everyone, but have to love everyone. I try my best to get a long with the people I do not like and I always try my hardest to give them a chance and a fair shot in life. I treat them with respect, and do not treat those people that I may not like unjustly or unequally. I think that everyone should be giving a fair chance and treated equally. Dealing with the subject of treating people equally, I do not think that the mid eastern people, especially from Iraq, should be mistreated…
