My Personal Experience In Indian Institute Of Technology
I was raised in a strange town named Bokaro. The people of Bokaro have great respect for the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) because back in 1993, a student of the town (Prasoon) secured All India Rank 1 in the entrance test of the IITs (JEE). This was a colossal event in the history of Bokaro and the people in the town were mesmerized by this achievement. Upcoming students viewed Prasoon as an idol and every parent in the town wanted his kid to be an IITian. Some people capitalized on this dream and numerous JEE preparation institutes were opened in the town. I liked Math and my dad, being an engineer himself, too started to tell me how amazing IITs were and motivating me to join them. As a child I was much impressed by his words and believed that my life’s primary aim was to get into an IIT but as I grew, I started analyzing different aspects of my life. I became more serious about my career. The internet was my biggest asset in exploring my options. I researched the net to find out that there were many universities abroad which offered a much better education than the IITs. Those universities had much better facilities. He had heard praise for the IITs from his colleagues and the children of some had even managed to get into those. He was very much charmed by the respect the society gave to the IITians. Most of the people in the town didn’t have much idea about foreign universities and hence my dad thought it wouldn’t bring him much pride in that. On the other hand was I. I wanted to do something which brought joy to me. I had my dreams and my plans. I had imagined myself at an excellent foreign university learning Electrical Engineering from world class faculty, singing my heart out with my friends, playing a prank on my roommate, meeting people of other cultures and exchanging what we can, scoring the last minute free-kick to win the soccer match for my team and developing my hobbies which the lack of opportunities in this small town had hindered to some extent. I wasn’t going to give up all of it just to please
