My Personal Experience
My Personal Experience

Throughout the duration of the ‘Managing People & Organisations’ module, I have learnt my strengths and weaknesses. I believe one of my personal strengths was undertaking background research. I was constantly testing my ability to research and present findings through every task of this module. However, there is always room for improvement and this module helped adapt that.

We were given many opportunities to present our research findings through group work, in the format of posters, presentations, etc. I made use of many different sources to collect my information. However I gathered the majority of me research through the internet and textbooks. For example, I found that ‘Management and Organizational Behaviour’ (Seventh Edition) By Laurie Mullins, was very useful right the way through the course. One in particular task we had to carry out during week 7 consisted of creating a poster. I think that the poster successfully presented the information it was required to using internet sources and knowledge from my own personal experiences. Nevertheless, the poster could have been improved by including further research which suggested effective ways to motivate employees and students to give a broader insight and understanding of the task in hand.

Additionally, during this experience I found that carrying out research in groups had its ups and downs. It was apparent that repetition tended to occur, although we assigned each other to specific sections of research. It meant that we were to edit our work and gathered information to ensure that we weren’t going to repeat or contradict each other’s points during a presentation. However, this could be easily explained by a lack of communication. Repetition could have been avoided if there was more communication within the group about the areas covered.

On the other hand, I believe that as a group we managed to carry out the tasks efficiently. From my own personal view, I think that I

Upon reflection the organisation of our group to begin with was very inefficient, we did not consult one another about how we would make the jacket, before getting on with the task, this meant the sleeves were being made by myself, whilst the body of the jacket by another, with no idea how they would fit together. I believe this is because we all wanted to have a share in making the jacket and help as much as possible, but no one wanted to adopt the role of task leader. On the other hand our team displayed great efficiency in the way we worked together, at one point we had a production line, where one would pass the Sellotape, then one would hold the piece in place, while the other stuck them together. We became a more efficient team the more we worked together on the task. Communication between us became more important. On the whole and on the basis of the finished product, it is evident that our team did work together efficiently, as we finished the task in good time and all of us had an input in the overall finished product.…

Initially, I had a negative view on group working because of the challenges that I had. When I was in high school, my five other friends and I used to work together in a music competition. Although we were supposed to get together to practice for the event, we were only able to meet up once a week. In addition to having a hard time with time scheduling, we often did not have a consensus of opinion. Whenever we had a discussion, we usually ended up with no results. So it always took a long time for us to make a decision. Consequently, the performance did not turn out as well as we expected. Because of this initial failure, I thought group work was time consuming and ineffective. However, I have changed my opinion lately because of the successful results in some of my laboratory classes. In each laboratory assignment, it is nearly impossible to work by myself because there are a lot of steps and each step needs to be very precise and accurate. Therefore, a group of two or three students will work more effectively compared to an individual because they can help to remind each other and finish the assignment faster. Based on those experiences, one more time I give myself a chance to work in a group and figured out how work effectively. Finally, thank to the Small group communication class, I found out that group work can become very productive if all the members in the group cooperate and follow the principles of small group communication. In this paper, I want to talk…

Oral Presentation: I worked on the oral presentation with most of the same girls from the group quizzes. We first divided the amount of work up equally and created our own individual power point. We then scheduled a night to meet in the library to conjoin our material together. We faced a setback when a team member failed to show up or do her part in the project. The group worked together to make up the missing part, and as a result we all graded each other well on our group evaluations. The downfall of the oral…

However, because the communication of progress and status was done in a regular and systematic fashion, and because the team members worked well together, everyone did feel an obligation not to the let their team mates down, or to let any one player carry the weight on their own. Everyone chipped in and was committed, if not to the success of the Project, at least the success and survival of the collective. This in the end ensured the success of the Project.…

McDermott (2002) suggests that groups are defined by consisting of at least two persons, that share space and share a purpose. The interactions taking place amongst members may be important in the development of common goals, norms and roles, and some sense of belonging. Within the context of a group, participants find the possibility of making comparisons between themselves and others, which can become an influential source of control and reward for members. Therefore the group work undertaken may play a part in defining the individual's sense of reality. McDermott further concludes that, while groups are extremely powerful phenomena, they also hold the possibility and potential of learning how to share that power. The individual and other group participants interact and create a social experience both in the ‘here and now’ as well as in their own minds with their interpretations of what is happening. The group in the group work module consisted of 4 members, including me and the educator. When I first I had some doubt if it would be possible to see group dynamics developing in such a small group, in reality the group was very dynamic, especially at the last weekend when we had two days followed by each other. The educator worked with us as a class but also modelled at the same time our group work. The group task was the learning outcome as stated in the Module outline and the goal is to cover the content areas. The process focused on how the group developed; when the process is going well then the group is dynamic, which our group was even though we where dealing with a member that for the first half of the module was not as involved in the process than the other three members due to tiredness. As a group participant I learned a lot about myself and how I react being in a group. When meeting new people I am at first shy and introvert until I know the other group members better and have…

since communication among the group was sub par the outcome of the presentation was not what i expected. if the group had communication with each other and not formed subgroups the outcome of our presentation would have been satisfactory. Only two members of the group ideas and input were used to write the story, and if all four members suggestions would have been used on this story the outcome of our presentation would have been greater then it was. the members of the group did not share there ideas, who knows what the outcome could have been if all members would have communicated with each other. this goes to show u if your in a group and there is lack of communication your project or what ever the group is working on out come will not be to your satisfaction.…

I learnt that good group work is based on effective contributions from every member of the group, also how can conflict in the group members be good when managed appropriately and how it can be beneficial to our work as a result we produced quality decisions. Indicates that groups that have little or no contact with each other are unlikely to have either conflicting or harmonious relations. In our group we all came up with many different ideas but because of the time limit we had to ignored many thing for example, all of us came with a list of questions but at the end we chose only few of them.…

Everyone have experiences in their life. These experiences could be the incidents which was happened in someone else life or in our life. Some people learn lessons from their experiences and some experiences change the peoples life automatically. Who am I? is my best personal experience I have ever had in my life . During all of my primary school times, I seemed as if I were hiding behind a mask. When I was at home I was a totally different person. At school I was trying to be a person who could fit in, but the more I tried the more it didn’t seem to work. Everywhere I went I would censor what I said depending on my surroundings and the people that were with me. Most of the time I would not say anything at all because I was afraid of being embarrassed. I would always have to change my mode when different people were around me. It was horrible; I hated it. I was getting sick and tired of always being someone I was not.…
