My Name Lucy Research Paper

My dad tells me that someone approached him in a dream and told him what the names of his four kids would be. Madison, Sam, Lucy, and Will. No one knows why it was these particular names, my mom didn’t even have a say in what we would be called. From the morning of April 13, 2000, I would forever be called Lucy Foley; all because of a stranger. Throughout all my years in school, there has never been another girl or named Lucy. Several Ben’s and Sydney’s would require a last named to be called so there was no confusion, but Lucy stayed as one word. I would say that being this unique has been a blessing and a curse. I love everything about my name, and the fact that I have met so few people in my life that share the same same. When I was little in sunday school up for role call, my teacher stopped me and asked me if I knew anything about my name. Since I was so young, all I could respond with was, “My parents gave it to me because they liked it!” The teacher I had liked it even more than my parents did, and a couple months later a younger Lucy was brought up in the church. Overall, I would say that I can relate to dogs a lot more than people lately. You’re in Disney World and want to find a Mickey cup with your name inscribed on the handle? You’ll search throughout the rack and will find a Lauren, Louisa, Laura, Lindsey, or even a Lacy. The u in the middle of my named separated me from many souvenirs that I could never get as a kid. With all this talk of acceptance and inclusiveness in 2017, you would imagine that I have found a mere sticker with my name at a rest stop. 16 years of searching, yet Lacy seems to win every time. I want to give a huge thanks to my parents for keeping me this original. My siblings were given basic names that you would find on a cup, and might require a last initial. Lucy allows me to feel different- a complete individual. I was not named after anyone, and I feel special because of that. My siblings’ middle names have come from grandparents or aunts or uncles, but I am the only one that has no connection to the others. I ask myself constantly how I became to be so unique; it must be how I can walk throughout the halls of Pleasant Valley, or maybe even a Walmart, and be the only Lucy
