My Name
My name is Erica Vargas I am a 24 yr old college graduate student; I attended Brookline College for 9 months. I live with Zach. I was 23 when he took me into his home; I depended on my mother a lot before Zach. My mother liked to move a lot and I didn’t graduate from high school because of that, so when I had an opportunity I left home at 17 and enrolled into job corps in Roswell N.M. I lived there for two years; I struggled to get my GED, I wasn’t getting the help I needed. I did graduate with my trade in Painting & Remodeling. Once I left job corp, I moved back into my mother’s house, she wasn’t doing too well so I had to raise my younger brother and I did, I’m so proud of him and the job I did at raising him. but that wasn’t the life for me, I was young I wanted a better life for myself, I didn’t like staying home. My mom got better and wanted to move, so one day when I was browsing the internet I met Zach, he’s an artist. We would talk hours on the phone and I confided in him, he knew my situation very well and was always there when I needed to talk. We ended up moving to Roswell, we lived there for a year and I had a job and was working so much I never had time to work on my GED, and then my mom wanted to move again so I had no choice but to come with her because I was using her vehicle for work. My mother moved to Belen nm where my grandma lives and I was trying to get a job but no luck so I decided I wanted to go to college, so I enrolled into Brookline college, Albuquerque is a 30 minute drive from Belen I didn’t know how I would transport myself from Belen to Albuquerque everyday but I did it and I struggled doing it. Mom decided to move again and I didn’t want to go with her, I told Zach I can’t just drop out school and leave, I want to stay and better my education I want to establish my career. I love my mom so much but I had to make that choice, whether to be with her or attend school and I did, I chose school. That’s when he offered to help me

We finally moved to North Carolina and I was devastated. I felt like I had to leave behind all of the friends I had just started formulating deeper bonds with. I felt like I had to start over from scratch with making friends and I missed Khalif; and finding out that he contacted me the night before we moved and I missed his call, didn't make things any easier. I never told him I was moving when I found out. I figured since we wasn’t together anymore, why bother. He found out my last day of school because my best friend and I were crying, and another student went back and told him. He approached me before the day was over, and wanted to know why I didn’t tell him I was moving. After we talked, he gave me a hug. I didn’t expect him to try to contact me that night. I didn’t find out he had called until my family and I were well in NC and I checked the caller ID box.…

I come from a very dysfunctional family; I am the older of the two children that were produced by my parents. I have a younger sister named Nicole Marie Stover. We are the result of my father’s third marriage, the only offspring he is aware of. He has been married seven times to date, the latest one has been the longest lasting, their twentieth anniversary was a few days ago. He made it quite clear when he came in one morning with Carol, my now step-mother of twenty years, that he was going to make this one work no matter what it took. Well this included striking me out of the picture as I was a troubled young lad. But let’s go back to the beginning of my life, the beginning of this story. I was born Sunday November 09 of the year 1980 to George Adam Stover, III and Dawn Marie Stover (Adams) in the wonderful town of Baltimore that’s located in the state of Maryland at Saint Josephs Hospital. My father was a feature photographer for WMAR Channel 2, where I spent a good portion of my time at playing on the editing room floor and…

I walk into the dull atmosphere classroom, pictures of present and past high school baseball players stare back at me. The marker board covered in scribbles of math and assignments that will soon be issued to us by the teacher. One look at the teacher and you can tell he wasn’t in the best of health. Starting with his overweight physic to his white, pasty skin, almost a bit discolored in some areas. It was soon discovered early in the year that he suffered from a heart deficiency. Yet, having constant road blocks enter his path, he continues to teach and peruse his passion. I rather much enjoyed that class, and there was one month left till until school was out. Students start to file into class; among them is a familiar but unacquainted face, Dan. Dan and I knew each other but neither of us had taken the time to traditionally acquaint ourselves and really talk. Dan had short golden blonde hair, pale white skin, which was making his acne more visible. He was tall and lanky with a friendly smile and attitude. That day he finally introduces himself and we begin to talk. My first impressions were that he was sweet yet a bit odd, referring to many people and myself as ‘love’. As well came off as ambitious and carefree, after having snuck out of class multiple times and just leaving for the day. As summer dawned closer and sophomore year was coming to an end, me and Dans friendship grew and we exchanged numbers. Summer began, weeks pass and we talk from time to time. Till one day while texting I ask if he had any big plans for the rest of summer. The reply I got was not what I expected. He told me that he was due to have brain surgery in a month or so. And as well, that that wasn’t the worst part, not only is his condition fatal if he doesn’t receive proper treatment, but that if the operation is successful that a side effect is that he will lose all memory of the last 4years of his life. At this point in the conversation my mind was racing trying…

I had my eye set on Delta Middle College High School. With a whole packet of paperwork and trying to get transcripts and record together, I became stressed out. Me getting into Middle College was my chance to make my parents proud of me. My self-confidence depended on me getting accepted. Sadly, the plan I had did not play out and I was rejected. That plunged me into a deep depression over the 2 month break and was constantly teetering over the edge. I stayed inside my room, not talking to anyone and ignored my family who were disappointed very in me. The only person I talked to was Aisha, who kept telling me that McNair was an okay school to be in. I don’t regret going to McNair now. I’m relaxed and content with myself so far and I’m more than grateful that she was…

My Dad had absolutely nothing to do with me from birth to when I turned 15 years old. I grew up with my Mom, and my one older sister. My Mom always had a really good friend whom I called my aunt, who helped her out for years and years. I became very close with her, and she would always help pay for expenses and would always come to extracurricular activities. Let’s rewind to my Mom’s life before kids. My mom did not live in a very good situation. Her Mom had 3 different men in her life and 4 kids from 2 different men. My Grandma slept with a guy at a party when she was dating somebody at the time, and got pregnant with my Mom. My Mom never knew her Dad and grew up thinking that her step dad was her actual Dad. When I was 4, my Grandma was dying of lung cancer when she told my Mom about her real Father. I never knew my Grandma, but I wish I had because I think I would be a different person today if I had a relationship with her. My Mom had 3 girls with 2 different men. Her first husband, was a no-good Father who went to prison so they got a divorce. My oldest sister left my Mom to live with her Grandma who bribed her into living with her, and my Mother was too young and dumb to stop it. I was an oopsy. At my Mom’s current job, she met a man who she must have had an affair with, and that is how I got here. I guess at the time my Mom thought she could raise me on her own and did not even try to get my Dad to be in my life. My Mom has had multiple boyfriends and potential husbands walk in and out of her life, but still has no luck with guys, and I keep hoping to myself that if she did, then she would be completely…

I was coming home from a “Summer of a Lifetime” which was also known as Celebration Iowa, a travelling show choir and jazz band in the state of Iowa. It took all summer and caused me to realize I would be going home to live with my aunt and my uncle, and not have any mode of transportation but them. They both lead quite busy lives, my Aunt Kris, is a professor of Education at Central College in Pella, Iowa, and my Uncle Doug is the head band director at Oskaloosa High School. This means they were both gone a lot, for meetings, and faculty parties. Which would leave me at home with no car, or mooching off of friends for rides. I knew this would not work out, which is when I called my cousin and that’s when the relationship started.…

My sophomore year was a great year for me as far as school goes. It was a year filled with many surprises and mysteries. It was my second year returning to Charles F. Brush High School and as I walked into the first day of school I wondered how my day would transpire. I was ecstatic to be immediately greeted by one of my friends that I met during my freshman year. It wasn't so much that it was him that made me ecstatic, it was more of him being a familiar face and me being reassured. His name was Dwayne. Dwayne and I had a like and a hate type of relationship. Some days we would be the best of friends, and other days we'd figuratively be at each other's jugular vein. This was mostly because of our very different personalities. Simply some days…
