My moment
An embarrassing moment can stumble among anyone at any given occasion. No matter whom we say we are we all have experienced an embarrassing moment during our lifetime, such as falling down in front of a large group of people, humiliating oneself in front of one’s crush, or simply peeing in one’s pants. There is no denying everyone has crossed paths with an embarrassing moment, but during these moments that occur we will either be accepting, ashamed, or see it as a joke in the end. We do not intend for embarrassing moments to happen in our lives, they just come into existence. So why do we have to be shy or hide underneath the covers from what has come about because, when one looks back, it’ll be just a funny remembrance with family and friends, or these experiences can aid us to learn how to overcome these obstacles and apply to one’s daily life. I took my embarrassing moment and applied it to good use to help me out in my life. Because of that one unforgettable experience, I had encountered during my life, will forever be an experience that changed my life as a sibling, son, classmate, teammate, boyfriend, worker, and a student.[a]
All my years working as a busboy at my aunt’s Mexican restaurant, I’d never thought in a million years that an acquaintance like this would ever have happened to me. The whole day of my incident is so vivid and clearly visualized in my head it feels such as if I’m reliving it over and over again. It was a brilliant Saturday morning on July 28th, 2012. I had barely woken pleasantly and marvelously from detecting an exquisite, heavenly aroma coming from the kitchen. I knew that the meal being perfectly prepared in the kitchen was a meal fit for a king that I would soon devour. After eating that splendid breakfast, I went to my girlfriend’s house, cherishing every single moment with her that day before we both had to go our separate ways[b]. When I arrived at work, I was walking in loved struck feeling such as I was on top of the world

Colin wanted to take some pictures of the llamas, so we stayed there for a while. Business was not too busy that day since it was a school day. There were two families walking about the zoo, and I was thrilled to find that one of them was interracial. The mother was a white woman and the father looked Middle Eastern. One of their three kids who was playing near where we stood had blue eyes and curly black hair. I told Colin he was the cutest kid I’d seen that day, and that was by no mean an understatement. This family was an example of exogamous marriage – a marriage in which the partners belongs to different social groups, or, in this case, ethnic groups. Exogamous partnership was not an uncommon phenomenon nowadays, especially not in the LA area, but seeing this couple here made me feel like I’ve hit the jackpot. When Colin was satisfied with his pictures, he said that he’d take me somewhere he knew I would love. So we heading out of the train station. As we walked past Hidden House Coffee, I saw a couple who were speaking Chinese, and I had a temptation to run over and hug them but of course I restrained myself. We then walked into an antique shop called The Old Barn and I immediately fell in love. The right word to describe this place would be an “antique outlet” because it was huge. The place was owned by exceptionally nice people with very strong Southern accent. After we were done shopping and I…

I was closing in behind her as she reached the crosswalk. She started to cross, of course I followed. After we crossed the street, she walked for awhile, then she sat down on a communal bench. “May I sit here?” I asked. “Of course,” she replied. A minute or two later, she asked “You look familiar, do I know you?” I stated who I was. Everything clicked after that. We started talking about the old days when nothing really matters. I lost track of time, we sat there for what seemed like minutes. Only to find out it had been a couple hours. We exchanged phone numbers, I told her to keep in touch. We went our separate ways, I called a cab and went back to my…

She asked me what my name was and I replied,” Roger”. Then she told me to go wash my face. She left the door right open I thought I could make a run for it, but I didn’t want to put myself in any more danger. The lady got up and left the room only looking at her purse. She said her name was Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. I was amazed by how long her name was but I had no time to think about that. I took care to sit on the other side of the room so she wouldn’t suspect anything. Then she heated some lima beans and ham she had in her icebox. I had to admit I was starving. She also made some cocoa. As we ate dinner she said,” Now, here, take this ten dollars and buy yourself some blue suede shoe.” Then she led me down the hall and I didn’t know what to say. As I walked out the door she told me goodnight and to be safe, but I didn’t say anything back. No words can explain how grateful I am for her to do the things for me. Then she shut the door. I was relieved when I got home. Man… What a…

As a young teen I always dreamt of accomplishing something that would have people’s eyes opened. Many doors were opened right before me and I could’ve walked through anyone. Having that opportunity I took the advantage I had and tried several doors. Doing so, after a while I never had the intentions of finishing what I began because nothing came naturally to me. At that point of my life I was 13 years old. The typical age of a girl who wants to be noticed for something outstanding as the athletes or celebrities in magazines and television. During recess my girlfriends were talking about shopping, nails, and makeup. For an odd reason during those conversations I always felt like the outcast snoozing out occasionally. Trying to find something different to do with my time, out of curiosity I ease dropped on the boys’ conversation for a few minutes. Weirdly, I wanted to become a part of it. As curiosity killed I continued listening to the conversation. Between all the gibberish spoken, horse racing was brought up. It was as random as snow on a summer day to bring up, but aside from it being random the idea of horse riding sounded interesting. Walking home from school, I was filled with excitement to ask my parents about it. To them it was just one of my ridiculous ideas I was fantasizing about. The next day I ran in to my old friend Milana. As we were talking I mentioned horse riding to her and ironically her cousin worked at the stables just a half an hour away. Her name was Jess, she was older then us by a few years. Jess worked there for so long it became apart of her life; she knew everything and everyone at the stables. I ran home to tell my parents about it. As ridiculous as it sounded it finally came to their thought as to what they had to loose, or what did I have to loose. The weekend came along and together with Milana, to make it for Jess’s late hours when no one was there, we drove down to the stable.…

Three men were dressed in black with button up shirts and decorative sombreros all standing in the corner of the room. Two men had violins and the third was handling a guitar. As we took our seats the band started playing lively music and a few older couples got up and danced fearlessly. Everything in the restaurant was bold excluding my bashful personality; otherwise I would have danced too. I was in a trance watching the people dance with one another until the Mariachi band shouted in sync, “AY!” causing me to be brought back to the present. It was then that I had realized how hungry I…

A year ago, I was waiting for that particular letter everyday. That letter that I knew would either help me live my American dream or the other way round. I was already half way across the world, leaving behind all those stuff that matters to me at that moment before I even fully prepared myself for it. I landed myself at a place where nine months ago, I had no idea that it existed in the map of America, it was “The Show-Me State”, Missouri. I walked as slow as I can to the arrival hall because at that very moment, everything just seemed so surreal but at the same time it did seemed a little bit scary to me. I had always been a very independent person and I thought I could handle this well. Those seemingly simple questions such as “What’s going to happen next? How should I introduce myself? Who should I hug first?” became too much for me to deal with that time. Then, a sound came from afar, calling my name, “Anthea”. I knew by then that this was it. I was going to embark on the greatest adventure in my life in a country where no one knew what my name is. It just felt like a total “reset” button for my life. I got to be who I wanted to be all over again just because no one knew who I was before.…

That day will forever remain in my mind. I can recall with nostalgia an incident, which took place five years ago. Back at home, my parents would reward my brother and me for the good grades we scored in the term papers. On this one occasion, my mum rewarded me with two hundred dollars for the good grades in the end year papers. In order have fun; I decided to invite my best friends to a hotel for lunch. On arrival at the hotel, I told my friends to order as much as they wished to take. One after another, they placed their orders and immediately the waiters swung into action and started serving us. The food was very delicious just as the services. We all took to eating, talking and laughing at the jokes we made back at school. On finishing the food, the bill was placed on the table. I hurriedly reached my pocket to get the money but to my utter disbelief, the two hundred dollars were missing. After a thorough check in all my pockets, it dawned on me that I had left my dollars in my bedroom. I had been filled with joy and excitement when my mother gave me that I did not remember to put it in my purse. On waking up in the morning, I was late and so I prepared myself in a hurry leaving the money on the table inside my room. I thought of borrowing money from my comrades but none of them could offer any help. They did not carry any money, as we would be picked by the school bus from home in the morning and only come back in the evening with the same. I approached the waiter and narrated my ordeal but she was fuming with rage. She ordered me to explain to the director. The hotel director was a kind and understanding man. He listened to my rather unfortunate ordeal and allowed me to rush home and get the money but had to leave my school identity card with him just in case I did not to come back. I hurriedly went…

October 18th, 2014 was the day which I cannot not to embrace it in my mind. That was a Saturday, which I did not have to take my evening classes at IFL as weekday schedules. That was a very special day I wished to have in my life for these twenty years. Personally, it was supposed to be an exciting moment; however, things was not that as expected. The story was initially started by a night before it, which was in October 17th, 2014. On that night, I received a Facebook inbox from a guy, who I had been chatting to, texted to date me out to meet on the following day. I got no hesitation to refuse him since I also wondered how he was in real person beyond in social media channel. Hence, the date was confirmed. I was kind of suffering an unusual heartbeat, and I was like could not fall asleep well at that night. Tick tock, tick tock… the time was flying in a slow speed that I could not wait anymore to let it reached 5pm as soon as possible. Hours passed, I prepared myself in a gorgeous dress and preceded the dating venue a half hour to make sure I was not late for my first date as I was late for every class at school. Unluckily, the early arrival made me bored and impatient to wait my partner. I was counting my phone’s clock again to wish every minute could flied a bit faster, and it was like a ten-minute late from the appointed time that I was sit still without seeing his shadow to reach me. I was so hungry and could not wait not to order the meal. That my bad routine of posting my meal on Facebook before I had it gave myself an excuse to access the free Wi-Fi and chatted to him why he was not yet there. Then I got a sign of “Seen” via the chat without any response back. Frustrated by the chat, I was quite aggressive, and accidently on the way to restroom, I hit the café’s servant while he was serving another customer’s coffee. As a consequence, I was spilt with brown stain of coffee kissed on my beautiful dress. That…
