My Medical Advisor
My advisor’s name is Dawn Moser. She is the Program Coordinator/Instructor for Medical Office Administration. She has worked within several medical facilities for several years as part of their staff that is responsible for billing and coding, which makes her knowledgeable. Being that she has mastered in this field of study, she is able to listen and give good advice in reference to college and employment. As my advisor and one of my several teachers, Mrs. Moser makes herself available to students when she is needed. Of course she has set office hours, but if you email or call her she will surely make time to help you. Moser I was truly nervous, because deciding to start college at the age of 44 was a little scary for me. We briefly discussed what my aspirations are once I receive my degree and then she stated the classes I should take my first semester. At this point, my financial aid had not started, so I was could not afford to take all the classes suggested for my first semester. Mrs. Moser did not try to force me to take those classes, but she did make sure I took my prerequisite classes so that I could move forward expeditiously during the next semester once my financial aid commenced. Also, here recently, I changed my original program, which is Medical Office Administration (which covers front office and billing and coding) to Medical Office Administration with a concentration in just billing and coding, but Mrs. Moser suggested I stay with the original program. I was thinking since becoming a certified medical biller and coder was my goal after I received my degree, that the program change was necessary, but I was incorrect. Dawn Moser advised me that if I stayed in the second program, that instead of me completing my degree within two years, it would be completed within three years. Because of her advising, I now can graduate with an associate’s degree in Medical Office Administration then return to complete four to five more classes to receive a second Associate’s Degree for Medical Office Administration with a concentration in billing and …show more content…
After I completed my first full semester I was interviewed and began a work-study position in the admissions department. Since working in Admissions, I have learned new skills and enhanced others. I have also been able to meet many students and be an encouragement to some that are just as intimidated about attending college as I was. Because of the meaningful relationships I have made with the faculty and staff of RCC as well as the positive steps I have taken to increase my education, I feel that everyone should go to college or seek a higher learning. This experience has awakened my curiosity on new and different subjects. It has made me push my 12-year old son to take his grades and schoolwork more seriously, to push harder and stronger on each assignment he has to complete and finally it has shown him that “ I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” (KJV/Phil
