As a cosmopolitan person who has also lived in France for 2 years and now the United
States, I find hope for my native Africa through international development organizations that have developed missions dedicated to the improvement of health care administration in the
Third World, Africa in particular. I think that I am a natural for health care promotion on an international level because of my high level of motivation, dedication to my studies, and my multi-lingual ability. I speak and write French very well and I am also a strong speaker and average writer in Arabic—in addition to English and the tongue of my native heritage,

I was born to a British and American mother and a Canadian father. My Dad’s parents were diplomats, so he grew up in Austria, Yugoslavia, France and Canada. Through living abroad my parents gained a strong appreciation of different languages that they passed on to me. I speak French and English fluently and am currently part of a language exchange where I am learning Spanish and Chinese. Languages are the way we truly connect with other cultures and I want to be able to appreciate other regions of the world when I get the opportunity to travel. It was this strong appreciation of learning that encouraged my application to Pearson College UWC in Victoria, British…

Now that I am back, I’ve realized the huge difference between America and Africa. Back there, everyone was happy no matter the circumstance. The homeless man in the streets at night and the rich man with the nice car all share the same amount of gratitude. There was barely any known cases of stress or mental breakdowns it was all about living life to the fullest and never forgetting to be grateful for what you have. That trip made me realize how much we take things for granted starting from our education; people back home would kill for an opportunity like…

I chose to focus on West Africa’s healthcare and educational issues and combine them into two because without one the other cannot be solved. There is a low rate of students getting education and people receiving healthcare. You cannot have doctors in a hospital if they don’t know what they’re doing that’s why they need education. Not all students have to become doctors, it is just recommendation so they don’t have to suffer from a disease or watch a loved one die. If students choose to become doctors with the education they’ve had, it will lower the death rate in West Africa.…

I have chosen to study in Africa, specifically Ghana with its ethnic and religious diversity, because it will give me the chance to gain a deep knowledge and understanding of African cultures, a culture to which I feel connected as an African-American. Africa, as the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of humankind, can impart to me so much of my and my family’s history. Even though I was born and raised in America, I still feel such a strong connection to Africa. Furthermore, Ghana is a beautiful country, with Amazonian jungles and tropical coastal areas, and it is known to have warm and welcoming people.…
