My Long-Term Goals: A Career As A Pharmacist
My short-term goal is to work hard in school and learn to relate knowledge to real life, and get lots of practical experience during my rotations. My long term goal is to work as a pharmacist with my current employer. I have worked in a closed door pharmacy for 11 years and now desire to specialize in that field dealing with geriatrics patients. I really enjoy having the feeling that I am making a difference in people’s life’s. When I was doing my rotation’s, I had counselled a lot of patients and the most delightful and grateful people were elderly patients. I felt like I really connected with elderly people and seeing the smile on their face and their appreciation for my advice really brightens my day. When I look at geriatric population, my parents really come to mind and I want to provide them with the best evidenced based care in pharmacy. I know elderly people are a challenge to work with due to their comorbidities, but I also know they are the ones who need the most help for managing it. Working in a long term care, I see elderly patients with literally 20 medications and I am always trying my best to check if they really need all of them.
