Abcarian and Klotz define the human condition as, “Man strives to give order and Meaning to his life, to reduce the myster and unpredictability that constantly threatens him. Life is infinitely, more complex and surprising than we imagine, and the categories we establish to give it order and meaning are, for the most part, “momentary stay against confusion.” At any time, the equilibrium of our lives, the comfortable image of ourselves and the world around us, may be disrupted suddenly by something new, forcing us into Painful reevaluation. These disruption create pain, anxiety and even terror but also wisdom and awareness.”
The above quote states that all people learn by the same process. Initially there is a disruption. This is followed by an emotional response. The emotional response calls for action which will rectify the disruption. Once this is done, the person gains knowledge from the experience. Montresor in the short story, “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe is an example of a character that is altered by an aspect of the Human Condition. Montresor’s disruption in the story was due to the insult upon his name and family honor by his friend Fortunato. Fortunato used to pick on Montresor all the time. Infect Montresor said” The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could.” (Poe, 37)One example of these injuries is when Fortunato said to Montresor that he is not a Mason. Montresor never saw these injuries as a big issue. When Fortunat insulted Montresor’s family honor, Montresor got very upset, “but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge”(Poe, 37). This shows Montresor’s anger .

Montresor’s emotional response is he gets very angry, but he didn’t show his anger to anyone as he mentions “I continued, as was my in to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that” (Poe,37). Montresor showed

In “The Clask of Amontillado” Poe uses diction , details , and imagery which ultimately creates a frightening, severe , and intense mood of the overall story. “Unsheathing ,y rapier , I began to grope with it about the recess; but the thought of an instant reassured me.” In this quote you seem to realize how mentally unstable Montresor truly is , we know this because he is reassured by the stonewalls being thick enough to block the sound of Fortunato's merciful pleads . Also Montresor could have been scared that the wall that he had just built had never truly been there and some how Fortunado has escaped …. this shows us that Montresor is not completely heartless…

To begin with, Montresor is an unreliable narrator. I think this because in the beginning of the story,(174) Montresor does not give any background or evidence of being insulted by Fortunato. The texts says, “ The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could...” Usually, when you are blaming someone that has done wrong to you, you would give a background, or evidence that they are in the wrong. My reason number two is that Montresor exaggerates his feelings and actions in the story, which is also why I believe he is bragging about his crime. “There were no attendants at home; they had absconded to make merry in honor of the time...I well knew, to ensure their immediate disappearance, one and all, as soon as my back was turned.” (176) Here is a perfect example of Montresor's bragging. He's basically saying that, he the best of the best, the head chief, and everyone knows when he says to do something, they do it.…

Through his words and subsequent deeds we can also identify the trait of sadism in Montresor. “A wrong is redressed when retribution overtakes its redresser,” claims Montresor. He continues, “It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong.” Montresor's aims are clear. Redress his perceived wrongs, punish the man who he feels wronged him, and make himself known to his offender as the one who has killed him. And while doing so, make him suffer in a way equal to the pain Montresor must have felt when insulted by Fortunato.…

His emotional response was of controlled anger. Montresor may have had anger but it was hidden anger. Montresor didn’t show it in anyway to hint that he had loathing boiling inside him. He expressed this by saying, “ The thousand injuries of Fortunado I had borne as I best could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed my revenge”. Montresor was a very solemn man, for he would not show his greatest anger, but he will avenge what caused it. This is stated when he said, “You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that I gave utterance to a threat. At length I would…

Throughout the entire novel, The Cask of Amontillado, Montresor seeks to get revenge on Fortunato. This has a significant meaning as there are chances that mental illness could also involve with Poe himself, but also Montressor. In The Cask of Amontillado, Montresor gets away with murder. There have been a lot discussed opinions of details about whether Montresor should have gotten away with the murder of Fortunato saying it as “Capital Punishment”. Montressor is a man whose heart is filled with nothing but revenge for his friend Fortunato who insulted him. He gets it by killing Fortunato in a very uncommon way during Carnival. Since he was able to successfully kill Fortunato and not get caught in Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado” this proves his sanity.…

Still, it also is a complex situation open to individual interpretation. Montresor plan of murder is motivated by a number of insults which are never mention in the story. However, the constantly indication of his family to be involved on the conflict may well take the reader to believe on a possible payback for some past encounter between families of society and power. The narrator’s tone when describing Fortunato, is a held feeling of likely envy, “You are rich, respected, admired, beloved, you are happy, as once I was.” Montresor sees on Fortunato, what he proclaims had once and misses at the moment. Therefore, Montresor reliability is to be…

"The thousand injuries at the hands of Fortunato I had borne as best I could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge" (Poe, 173). Montresor is so convinced of the righteousness of his convictions that he "must not only punish but punish with impunity" (Poe, 173). Montresor also states how he must not fail to "make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong" (Poe, 173). Montresor's words prove how his prideful obsessions have deluded his mind enough to believe that Fortunato's wrongs justify his agonizing death. Furthermore, Montresor believes he should go unpunished for his…

The environment is where crowding among different persons takes place. It has an enormous factor on the development of an individual, most especially, human behavior. With those interactions, experiences are gathered for learnings to emerge. I agree with B.f. Skinner’s perception about the big impact of nature to man’s whole-being. The totality of a man is an upshot of everything that surrounds us. We become what we plan us to be from all the experiences we have undergone. Biology may have a role in some aspects of our humanity, but man develops, adjusts and adapts psychologically without the influence of biology. We will be someone if only we, ourselves, allow it to happen (Skinner, 1973). The family is obliged to take good care of its young members. There is where the foundation of everyone’s performance started. The members of the family are the first models of the young whom they mimic, for they are the first people who got in touch with the child.…
