My Learning Experience
I have many goals that I have set for myself over the course of my life. Most of these goals I have set for myself, I have achieved with hard work and dedication. One of my many goals I had set for myself before coming into the military was to further my education. I probably would have never made it through the first semester of college, lacking the proper discipline and being immature I decided to join the United States Air Force. I thought it was a good idea to get the Air Force to pay for my education and I would be able to see the world. Though I joined the Military to further my education it took my 10 long years to start on my goal. I would always put college off till next year or later. With the help of a couple of friends I decided to return to school this year and chose the University of Phoenix as my decision.
Despite all of the accolades and all the technical training I received from the military, I didn’t really feel that the transfer of learning would benefit me. Through out my career, there has always been someone physically there to explain the applications of my skill trade. I felt really challenged and not to mention scared knowing that I was going to learn how to meet all the course objectives via a virtual class room. I had enough trouble in grade school even though I was in a physical learning environment. I had my work cut out for me. The added pressure of having to get a degree within an allotted time in order to maintain my instruction in K9 School was ironic. It also placed me in an automatic learning style of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is learning in which the consequences of behavior can lead to changes in the probability of its occurrence (Benjamin B. Lahey, 1998). Teaching future K9 Handlers the principles of conditioning involving classical conditioning and the types of learning is a taste of my day. Just knowing how the contingency square works in behavior modification was enough to help me get my foot

When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…

The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…

I am a proud member of the United States Air Force. There are certain requirements that I have to meet in order to compete for possible promotions. A person in any job wants to do well and succeed at what they do. In order for me to receive excellent ratings and put myself in the best position for success the Air Force has made it clear that I am expected to pursue a college-level education. The Air Force is also the only service to offer a college degree for college classes combined with military training. There is no excuse for not attending college classes. However my main reason for going to school was still to help myself. The more education I have results in a higher rating when compared to my peers that lack the same education. That puts me in the best position to earn a promotion and a pay raise. My initial reason to return to school is clear and now I see even more reasons to continue what I’ve started.…

Deciding to go continue my education and further learning after high school was one of the best decisions I’ve made only because it’s what will benefit my future living, financially and mentally as well. Attending school has taught me useful tips I’ll use for the rest of my life, whether its time management, not procrastinating with anything and pushing myself to the highest possible limit. At the end of the day college is not for everyone to attend, it isn’t something to not take seriously; it requires dedication, patience, social skills, etc. Although college is a privilege but I see it more as a necessity in life in order to expand your horizons and life’s possibilities.…

Learning within a military environment learning it takes two very distinctive routes. Due to the fact the military is an autocratic society and to the nature of its training and learning it could be perceived that Soldiers are treated Neo–behaviourists and certainly a lot of military training would fit the Gagné (1975) eight types of learning. This is true for some of the basic fundamental and core military subjects. However I must also understand that outside of these core fundamental’s we need to be more reflective of the learning Domains. When I look at the delivery of training to soldiers I can see that it falls mainly with in the psychomotor domain and behaviourism, and only as the rise up the ladder of responsibility does the method and delivery model change to incorporate cognitive and affective domains, and a more andragogical model of delivery.…

What sets my story apart from many is that my goals never changed despite such difficult odds. Yes, I had to stop and start a few times, but my drive to succeed in terms of my education never wavered. There are a lot of people that start school, stop and then move into a career or trade, with school far from their minds. Not me. My parents dreamed of me finishing and I’ve always wanted to be a pharmacist, so our dreams intersected and the culmination is my continued path to finish college and be successful. There isn’t a roadblock big enough to block my path now; as an older and wise student with a life full of exceptional cultural, educational and life experience behind me, I am well on my way to accomplishing those same goals I set for myself so many years…

Sitting here, as a new student in an on online college course, reflecting back the past 30 years is really something. It is funny how fate (and bad decisions) will put you in a situation that you never thought you would be in, until it slaps you in the face. I never thought too much about school. I certainly did not think I would find myself in college, much less so late in my life. Let me start at the beginning, and explain the best that I can why I am returning to school after all these years.…

    Attend College

There are many reasons why I am attending college. However, I am only going to address my main motives. One reason why I have enrolled in college is the opportunity to further my knowledge. I believe that knowledge is the key to success. I say this because most career jobs in modern society request that you have at least a bachelor 's degree to get hired on at an entry level position. I reasonably believe the perspective of Corporate America is that an educated individual will function more efficiently than an uneducated one. Also, attending college will prepare me for a rewarding career in law enforcement. I plan on joining a federal law enforcement agency and the criteria states that personnel must posses a bachelor 's degree as a minimum. Getting the career in federal law enforcement means I will be able to support my family in the future. Supporting them with a source of income from a career I am passionate about and enjoy will make my family and I happy. For example my mother supported three children on her own and she loved what she did so that aided in the amount of happiness present inside our home.…

As a teenager I had many goals for myself in mind for the future. I decided that for my goals to happen I need to pursue a college degree after I graduated high school, but I knew that my parents wouldn’t be able to afford my college tuition. Before joining the service, I had plenty of part-time jobs as waitressing in different restaurants which at the time I thought it was a stressful job. If I had only known that going through army basic training was going to involved double the stress and aches I was going through as a waitress, I would have preferred to deal with rude customers, horrible working condition and long, stressful hours my way through college.…

During our training at Balik-Manggagawa, I learned a lot of things such as interacting with other people. We know that people have different characteristics and attitudes, however, making friends with them is not that difficult. I learned to build on my competence, professionalism in dealing with people, discipline and ability to communicate with people. I gained self-confidence and maturity which are needed in the work and acquired the ability to work harmoniously with employers, workers and other trainees. I also have taken and developed values to become productive individuals like commitment, interpersonal relationship, teamwork, professional behavior, enthusiasm, politeness and punctuality.…
