When I was younger, she was and is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I spent so much time with her. She was my great grandma. She was amazing and everyone who met her loved her. With her we went garage saleing; we also spent a lot of time camping, and I went to her house. I played with my cousins, and loved to be in the hot tub. On rainy days, we do crafts, or play board games inside. On every Christmas Eve we would all get together, and she would put together games, and crafts for us to do. We also told stories, and sing songs.…

While an interview I did with her, she spoke to me about her mother, my great grandmother who died 8 years ago at age of 102 years old. She told me a little bit of her lives as children, they were 15 brothers and sister and always lived together till each one of them got marry and move to their own lives. Today there is only 7 of the left. While in this interview I asked my grandmother about the government during her childhood, she spoke to me about Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, a dictator who controlled The Dominican Republic for about 31 years. My grandmother Delores was the one who did all of the wonderful cooking. I could just imagine all those great Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners we had. I could smell and taste her wonderful sweet potato pies, juicy greens, sweet cornbread and the list goes on. Cooking was not all she did though; even in her 70s she was a hard worker. Delores was never terrified to say what was on her mind. She always kept her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in check. In 2008, she passed away due to ovarian cancer. My family was never the same after…

I spoke how kind hearted she was, so patient and loving. She gave her last years to my sister and I. My family grew apart. No more family dinners or holidays together. She was the glue that held everything together. The next 6 or 7 years were hard on my sister and I. Even though we always had a bed to sleep in, we were always going house to house. We didn’t really had a home. We were basically left on our own like orphans. I took care of my grandfather, always worked, went to church and at the age of 18 gave birth to a beautiful healthy boy. I grew up too fast without realizing what to do or how to do it. However I remember her teachings and the way she cared for all her grandkids and I applied everything that was taught to my son. My son at the age of 2 was formally diagnosed with mild autism. I have to admit my life has never been full of roses but my grandmother made it worthwhile. She would have fell in love with my son. He looks just like my father (my father was murdered when I was 8 months old). The strength I receive every day to take care of my family is from my 12 years of life with my grandmother. The day she died changed my life forever but it also taught me many things. I agree that I grew a little too fast but everything happens for a reason. I will not be given a cross to bear that I am not able to handle. I can handle many situations and I thank my grandmother for that since I am a…

I met my grandma when I was 5 years old, and coming into a new family with my mom I remember her accepting me as her granddaughter right away. She always made me feel like I belonged in the Doyle family. One of my favorite things to do was to go out to her house and help her make supper and spend the night. I could talk to her about anything. When our house was being built we lived with her for a couple months. I loved spending every single day with her. I can remember waking up one morning and walking out into the kitchen where she had been making breakfast. I looked down at my plate and saw some weird looking eggs and toast. I had no idea what it was called but I…

I had brought my grandma a piece of my birthday cake that was left over from my party the day before, even though I didn’t know she couldn’t eat it because it had way too much sugar in it. I came back the next day to visit my grandma in hospice, and I noticed the cake was still sitting in the same spot I had left it the day before. I asked my mother, and my grandpa why she hadn’t eaten it, and the nurse explained to me that she couldn’t eat anything with that much sugar in it. A couple hours later I lost my loving grandma to such a horrible disease. I now only have memories of her, and can only wish she would be there for me when I graduated high school two years ago, and also to watch all the huge steps that I will take later in my…
