My Future Career
I have many goals for my life, and I picture my future following a specific path. During my high school career, I have been working toward my goals; I have also been thinking about which university would best help me succeed in the future. Attending Drake University would allow me to follow the path I envision for myself.

My long-term goal is to have a career in pharmacy. I want to pursue a career in pharmacy because pharmacists play an important role in society which I want to be a part of. Most people think pharmacists only hand out prescriptions, but they do so much more, especially educating patients about their medications. This education includes identifying dosage, listing possible side effects, and communicating proper usage of the medication, which is important to the patient’s health and well being. Good pharmacists are not just ”good with people”, they also care about their patients. I love working directly with people. I am very much a “people person” and need to have a career where I interact with others. I also naturally care about other people very much, which would allow patients to feel comfortable talking to me about their medication. Another reason I want to become a pharmacist is I have always wanted a career in healthcare. I looked into all possible healthcare careers and decided on pharmacy due to my passion for chemistry. I love chemistry because it is literally everywhere around us. I also find reactions between chemicals very interesting. It amazes me how combining a group of chemicals together can lead to a new and different compound. I am eager to learn more about the chemical composition of medications that cure everyday and severe illnesses.

Getting the very best education is the only way I can become the best pharmacist I can be. I have challenged myself all through out my high school career by taking the most advanced courses available at my school. I have also taken many courses that are offered for college credit. Wanting to

Furthermore, your program provides a constructive atmosphere for my learning style. The preceptors I worked with while on rotation gave me the independence of making recommendations. However, they also provided guidance tailored to my visual and auditory learning styles if I requested…

First, I fell in love with the pharmacy when I was seven years old; I had a high fever and was diagnosed with malaria. The doctor later placed on drugs, within a few days I recovered. Ever since then I promised myself that day I was going to become someone who makes those pills in future so that other kids won’t have to take those painful injections.…

I will continue to create inter-professional healthcare environment once I graduate. I will make sure to provide any recommendation, which I feel is appropriate for the wellness of the patient. I will make sure to provide positive feedback to the team if I am a member of P&T committee at the hospital. For example, if I am in P&T committee at the hospital I will make sure to consider physicians, nurses and other pharmacist point of view in order to add or remove any drug from the formulary. As I am in the hospital shadowing I will be able too see the pharmacist in action providing care to a patient, I will learn counseling techniques, I will be able to ask them the necessary questions, including their academic trajectory, among other important aspects. This will give me a sense or a brief overview on what to expect if I where to work in this area. I should also see the level of education need to achieve in order to get such position. Like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, my choice to pursue pharmacy was not laid out so colorfully before me. From the age of five, I was so sure a doctor was what I wanted to be. My plans changed, however, when I was taken off the yellow brick road and led in a new direction. I was placed in a pharmacy tech class the first day of my senior year of high school instead of the clinical rotation class I signed up for because that class was full. Rather than loathe this whole experience, I decided to make the best of it.…
