My Favorite HolidayNowadays There Are Countless
My favorite holiday.

Nowadays, there are countless holidays, some of them known and popular all over the world, and some can be called local or even personal. The most widely known is the New Year holidays, Christmas, Halloween, Happy Easter and so on. Sometimes holidays can be quite strange or unusual, such as La Tomatina or The pirate day. However, each of these holidays has its own traditions and date of the celebration. Due to such variety, everyone finds a feast for the soul. And I am no exception.
As far back as I can remember New Year has been my favorite holiday. The gatherings with family and friends, passing out of presents, and decorating the house are among the most pleasant of my wintertime childhood memories. Of all of the customs, which my family followed, decorating the exterior of the house with bright lights was and continues to be my favorite New Year tradition.
I can say that this holiday in Russia is celebrated two days, one is on December 31th and the second on January 1st, on those two days we try to spend time together talking, laughing, traveling, and playing games and so on. As a result, New Year in my family is my favorite time of the year. The weeks before, it is felt in the air that everyone waits the New Year midnight with anxiety. In the morning and in the afternoon December 31, everyone in my family is definitely has something to do. For instance, mommy and I are always looking for recipes in advance; in order to please tastes of our family and guests, but my grandmother always gets it better and satisfies everyone’s appetite with some fantastic dishes. Besides, on our table there are always the traditional dishes such as Olivie and herring under a fur coat. Great food is almost the first reason why I love New Year holiday so much.

The next reason is the magic atmosphere around this eve. I adore looking for presents, trying to find the best one for friends and relatives. Then, after an exhausted search, when the night is

My family celebrates Christmas. Christmas is my personal favorite holiday, for mostly selfish reasons, but reasons none the less. On Christmas Eve we start by going to my grandparents house and having a big dinner and opening stockings that my grandma hand made for us when we were born. Then when we get home the first thing we do is unload the stuff from our grandparents house and get ready for bed. My siblings and I go into our parents bedroom and get on Santa Tracker immediately so we know when we should go to bed. This year that might change though, becuase Miles, my little brother, knows about Santa now. We find a Christmas movie or two then settle down on the floor or bed. Usually we watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Elf. We watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas because when we first started the tradition that is what we watched and the second movie because it is our favorite Christmas movie us. The tradition started one year when for Christmas we got new furniture for our rooms and we could not be in our rooms while they were putting the furniture together. Basically the tradition started as a trick and we liked it so much, we thought, let's do it again next year a couple of times. I suppose that is how most traditions start though. The idea behind the tradition is that we all wake up together and we all see the presents at the same…
