My Evolution Simulation Hypothesis
Question:

What kind of creatures will thrive in my evolution simulator?

Hypothesis:

I think that there will be many creatures with high health, because they will survive more damage, high speed, because they can hunt and run away faster, high intimidation, because they will be less likely to be attacked, and high attack, because they will be able to kill stuff more easily.

Materials List:

Computer
My evolution simulator
Observer

Procedure:

Create/download my evolution simulator.
Run my evolution simulator.
Record the creatures that there are the most of.
Repeat steps 2-3 two times.

Data Table:
Run #1
Time (ticks)
Dominant Creature
100
Run Speed: 2, Name: 0.372, Intimidate: 3, Food Search: 194, Attack: 6, Health: 70, Regen: 0.4, Age to Start Hunting: 14, Hunt Speed: 1, Danger Distance: 19

They almost always had high Food Search. They also usually had high Attack. Regen was usually high as well.

Conclusion:

My hypothesis was partially right. I thought the creatures would have high Health (sort of right), high Speed (mostly wrong), high intimidation (sort of wrong), and high Attack (completely true).
I think the reason for high Attack was as different form of Intimidate. It could also be a defense mechanism. I think the reason for higher Run Speed than Hunt Speed was because they preferred to run away from each other instead of fighting. I think the reason for high Food Search was because they would be able to find food more easily. I think the reason for high Regen was because they would stay weak for a less time after a fight.

As well as it had an e-value of 0, which means that it’s closely related to the gene of interest. This species is located on the birds’ branch on the cladogram because it has features of a bird. The finches on Darwin and Wallace Islands feed on seeds produced by plants growing on these islands. There are three categories of seeds: soft seeds, produced by plants that do well under wet conditions; seeds that are intermediate in hardness, produced by plants that do best under moderate precipitation; and hard seeds, produced by plants that dominate in drought conditions. The lab is based on a model for the evolution of quantitative traits-characteristics of an individual that are controlled by large numbers of genes. These traits are studied by looking at the statistical distribution of the trait in populations and investigating how the distribution changes from one generation to the next. For the finches in Evolution Lab, the depth of the beak is the quantitative trait. I investigated how this trait changes under different biological and environmental conditions.…
