My Drivers Test Narrative
I demonstrated grit when I took my drivers test. My drivers test was not easy at first, but once I started studying the drivers manual it got easier each time I tried. I felt like that I was never going to get it. I felt this test was nerve racking. I never sweated so much in my life. This test took me eight or more tries to complete the test. Every time I tried the test I kept getting a higher score each time. On the tenth day of trying to pass this test I earned a hundred percent.I was so excited that I passed my drivers test it felt like I was going to explode with joy and happiness,my mom was very proud of me.So that very next day we went out for ice cream I ate a Triple Brownie Extreme with chocolate syrup and M&M’s on top. This is how

Grit is the strength of character and is seen differently by everybody such as how Dr. Duckworth sees it and myself. Dr. Duckworth states in her interview with “Ted Talk” that it’s how much passion a person has, how much stamina they have in achieving their long term goal. Unlike Dr. Duckworth I believe that a person’s mindset plays a major part in grit and I also believe you have to be optimistic and have the resilience to be a gritty person. Dr.Duckworth’s article on grit discusses the importance and the differences of grit.…

On the day of my behind the wheel driving test I had mixed emotions. I was a little bit nervous, what if I do not pass and was getting a little bit excited, thinking of all the opportunities I had if I did pass. I was nervously waiting in the car at the road test parking area for a DMV proctor to come. While my driving instructor, Hayk was chatting with other instructors in the shade. After what seemed to be the longest wait in my whole entire life was just fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes past, an orange cone was placed on the hood of my car signaling I was next.…

The narrative, The Driver’s Seat struck home for me because I just received my driver’s license this past May, 2015. I took time for me to actually drive and to become comfortable behind the wheel of a car. This piece of writing spoke to me and allowed me to review some of the identical thinking points that I went through while getting to the point of taking control of my dad’s car. The story effectively walked me through the trials of spirit and mental anguish that preceded me in taking hold of the vehicle with my dad as the co-pilot giving directions. This was the exact thing the driving instructor in The Driver’s Seat‘ taught the author. The routine of how to maneuver and throw caution to the wind- taking risks- to get the author over…

My white knuckles clutched the wheel as my little car whined and jerked into high gear, finally accelerating onto Six Forks. Barely a mile from home, and driving was already intimidating. My credentials were impeccable. I had passed a dreadful thirty hour class with a teacher whose voice carried to the moon and proven my driving prowess to a cartoonish instructor sporting a beret, plaid shirt, corduroy jacket, billowy pants, and a pair of suspenders. A pair of rimless spectacles made his eyes appear small and beady while accentuating his pudgy face. There was no conceivable reason to be nervous, but I could not shake the grim sense of foreboding that hovered over me.…

I woke up on another school day, dreading that I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to drive for Driver’s Ed. I do the normal routine: brush my snarled hair, get on my blue jeans, a t-shirt and brush my pearly whites. I’m then standing looking out the window, waiting for Mr. Schimp to drive up to my house in the stylish, white, Driver’s ed minivan. I hop out the front door with my backpack and then get into the driver’s seat, ready to pick out my favorite radio station, Star 106.1. I was officially ready to start my 20 minutes of driving.…

I know you constantly claim that there is nothing wrong with my car, but Kevin holds a large amount of problems and difficulties that are constantly looked over. For example, Kevin’s engine can be heard from miles away, and the engine gets so obnoxiously loud in the vehicle that you cannot hear the person sitting next to you. In addition, Kevin’s brakes screech like nails on a chalkboard, the rearview mirror has fallen from the windshield many times before, and the CD player does not function properly. Often I find myself discovering some other element of the car that is damaged or broken. Kevin looks and runs smoothly now, but who is to say that he will tomorrow?…

Living in West Virginia, one has ridden in a pick-up truck at least once. If it was in the front seat or the back, especially when you’re six foot three with your knees in your chest. Or when everyone hopped in the bed, you knew it was going to be a good time. Growing up my father had two trucks that I can remember, both of them I loved to ride in. The first one was the definition of a work truck, and it broke down everywhere. The other one was a very nice family truck that he loved, and so did I considering it was the first vehicle I ever drove. I currently drive a truck as my daily driver, and considering my history, I want to test if there is a better truck out there than mine. So I will be testing: suspension, carrying, handling, and gas…

I just turned 16 years old. My parents both decided that it was an appropriate age to go and try to acquire my driver’s license. First, I needed to get my permit. When I did research online, I learned that I would need to take two tests. One would be on sign recognition, and the other on driving rules, regulations, and laws. I was truly nervous, and I knew that I needed to be studying dutifully.…

If only I had taken my time on the test, I might have gotten a better grade. Failing my math test came as a big shock to me but helped me realize that I need to take my time and not rush. When you rush through an assignment, you are prone to make simple mistakes that you might not have made if you would have taken your time. I have noticed when I rush through a math assignment I will make simple calculation errors or write the answer in the wrong format. If I had slowed down a bit, I could have saved myself points on simple calculation errors. There is a fable by Aesop that is often used in stories relating to time it is The Tortoise and the Hare. The tortoise took his time and went through the race at his normal pace instead of rushing. The…

Two months after I get my driver’s license, I get my very first speeding ticket. What a great way to start out driving, right? Well my parents didn’t think so. So, I’m driving home from school on this I guess you could call it a “hilly” road where the bumps are fun to ride over when speeding. It was all fun and games until I spot the cop parked at the end of the street just watching me. There was no use in slowing down. I knew he’d already clocked me at 50 in a 25. There wasn’t anyone on the road besides me, but in the passenger seat sat my best friend. I was also driving through a neighborhood. I put a lot of people in danger. I know the whole situation could have been retained if I had followed the law.…

Getting my license has changed my life forever. This event has allowed me to prove to myself and my parents that I am capable of being on my own and ready to function in the real world. My whole life my parents have regretted the decision to start me in school early. They always worried that I would be unable to handle the stresses of adult life at such a young age. Whenever I would talk to my mom about applying for college she would always say to me, “I can’t believe you have to deal with this so early. How are you ever going to survive at college?” This theme has come up a lot throughout my life at home. From when I wanted to get a credit card, and even to when I wanted to go on dates. My mother’s words have always echoed in my head until…

The challenge this week was related to the good ol’ standardized testing. This year I was assigned to test the group of students that are placed in the class of newcomers, as in having been in the school for 2 months or less. Oh my! These students have never participated in a standardized test, so it was not only their first experience on a multi-hour test, but also at the same time it was my first experience testing brand new students in the school. Challenges went from bubbling all the answers the first couple of questions, to frustration because they thought they needed to fill out all the open-ended answer documents, while I was by myself, without a proctor to help out. I explained to them how to bubble the answers, and we did the…
