My Dog Skip
English 101 09/17/2012 Gonzalo Garcia My dog skip
When my english professor said to me that we was going to see “My dog Skip”, sincerely, I thought the film would be very boring. “the typical family film” I said. The only fact that glad me was that we went going to miss class. The praises that the professor said about the movie was useless, I thought that the movie would be boring.
So, I started to see the movie. Soon I realized that the movie is not the comedy film, it is different. Little by little it begins to engage you until you cannot stop seeing the film. This movie does not look for too funny with a simple story line, easily jokes, and characters without evolution. My dog skip go far away showing a very good story line, an excellent soundtrack, and a excellent characters
The story is set in 1942, town of Yazoo City, Mississippi during World War II. The story explores a family of three, Jack, Ellen, and Willie Morris. Willie is a shy boy. Ellen decides to go against father's orders and purchase Willie a faithful companion of his own for his birthday: a puppy. Although Jack firmly opposes this gift, his wife convinces him Willie is old enough to take care of a dog. Willie names his new friend Skip. The dog will become very well-known and popular among locals, and assist children to have higher self-confidence causing Willie make their first friends.
The story line although it may seem simple in its approach is very deep and emotive. The story is about things like the value of friendship. For example, can be seen as the beginning of a child movie Willie is sad, lonely and left mauling by his classmates. But this situation is changing when he gives his dog skip and start having friends becoming someone much happier and self-confident.

It begins with the dramatic line "Everybody hates me." The author then proceeds to take us on a journey written in the first person from the point-of-view of Tao Symonds, the eleven year old narrator and central character, as he reflects on the previous few months of his life. Tao thinks the whole world is against him. He is suffering pressure from school, his parents and their new partners, as well as from his peers to join in theirescapades and to top it all off, his dog has died. Tao feels confused and angry because his parents, middle aged surfer father, Greg, and his mother, a teacher called Christine, are in the process of a break-up. Tao then lists his troubles and tells the reader of his present dread as he is taken by his mother to meet Mr. Petrovic, a Croatian immigrant, to apologize for something he says is not his fault, at least not entirely his fault. Through the use of past and present tense, Colin Bowles complicates the plot telling us in Tao's view how it all started.…

The story, written in the form of a letter, shows the process of a thirteen-year-old girl becoming more mature as she expresses her grievances from her tragic childhood. At the beginning of the story, she described both the emotional and physical difficulties her family suffered through because of the absence of her father. She felt lonely, insecure and confused as she hoped that her father would come back. “Sometimes I had bad dreams. I would dream the welfare took us away and no one missed us, not even mommy. Daddy where were you?” (Page 163) At the end of the letter, however, the girl started to understand that her view of the world before was unbalanced and incomplete, “through a thin veil full of small holes”. (Page 165) She felt more released and started to notice “the greatness of the world”. (Page 165) She began to treasure all the memories she had with her family instead of thinking about her misery all the time, “we carried on living.” (Page 165) There was a great transition of her character from the beginning to the end of the letter.…

The story starts off at what seems like a nice tranquil setting, yet it then evolves into that of a very negative characteristic in each the characters and their daily life. It is sent in the Southern region of the US. The description of the African American child and his clothing reveal the type of life they lived at that time. The run down restaurant they stopped to have lunch where whiny Red Sammy, the owner of the BBQ restaurant, was at was one example. Then we have June Star, Baylie’s daughter and the grandmother’s granddaughter, who is nasty to…

The setting is specific. It is set in Houston Texas in the home of the main character's wife from his life as a human. The story would be dramatically different if his wife hadn't been the one to buy him from the pet store. If, instead, a little old lady had purchased him, then the story would have more than likely been very flat. It would be missing the elements of frustration and irony brought about by him being in the presence of his wife and her new lovers.…

Dogs can bring happiness to even the saddest person. They bring out the best in someone, and they’re always there for you. This is one of the many reasons I love dogs so much. That, and the fact that I’ve grown up always having at least three. My family is definitely a dog family; all of us love being around dogs, and we always have so many and want more and more. The plot is simple and for me it's well-constructed. At first I thought the characters were animals, bears in particular but later on I learned that the bears were only part of Junpei's story for Sala. Junpei's story was cute and it is kind of related to the story of their lives. The story is about friendship and life. It's nice to see that the three of them remained to be friends until the end even though they have problems and untold…
