My Decision To Go To Haiti
Haiti
If you were to give people the option of traveling anywhere in the world, majority of people would choose beautiful vacation spots on exquisite beaches or breathtaking mountains. However, I am the opposite. If I was given a ticket that would take me anywhere in the world, I would choose to go to Haiti.
Haiti has the highest percentage of orphans out of any country in the western hemisphere. The country is full of starving men and women who live lives that are unimaginable to many Americans. However, if you were to look deeply into the lives of some of the Haitian people, you would find joy. A joy that comes from God alone. Christianity has been spreading like wild fire through Haiti and replacing the common practice of voodoo since

People in Haiti have so much to fear because of their country’s spotted history with politics and how people in power would wield that power, that the citizens would never know if they are free. People flee the country on the smallest chance that they could survive, because staying in Haiti and opposing the current government would mean certain death. Just like the man on the boat in “Children of the Sea,” “Perhaps I was chosen… as I…

The Republic of Haiti is in the western part of the island of Hispaniola in the West Indies. It is densely populated and has the lowest per capita income in the western hemisphere (Kemp, 2001). The population of more than seven million is made up of mostly descendents of African slaves brought to the West Indies by French colonists. The horrible conditions in Haiti, such as crushing poverty, unemployment and illiteracy, and high rates of acute and chronic illnesses and child and infant mortality, result in the illegal immigration of many Haitians to the United States, France, and other countries in Western Europe. Most immigrants are adults and teens who leave Haiti in tiny boats, despite the risk of drowning and other hazards. According to Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) 2001 statistics, the number of refugees has declined to several thousand per year since the early 1990's.…

Haiti has a lot of its own special quirks and downfall. Like the U.S one of the special quirks is population. Haiti has a population 9,801,664 people as of June 2012. That is pretty miniscule compared to the U.S.A.’s population. Next is Haiti’s literacy rate which is 52.9%. I think that is because of the recent earthquake and all of the destruction that it caused making the buildings crumble and making less educational establishments in Haiti. Finally the Haitian currency is Haitian gourdes. Compared to the U.S. dollar it is extremely small amount of money. That is what the island country has to offer and what the U.S. can’t.…

    A Modern Modest Proposal

It is a truly depressing matter to witness the complete and utter destruction of Haiti. Since the earthquake, the nation has being slowing withering away. The people that inhabit the land are suffering terribly and enduring the most brutal conditions. Tent cities, populated by close to seven thousand people, are being subject to crime and the propagation of a multitude of diseases. Parentless children wander aimlessly, searching for any remnant of food or even a single droplet of water. If they do not find their precious water and food they will end up like many others who end up passing out due to starvation or dehydration and eventually dying. Only the fortunate have an actual place to call a home, if one considers four sticks embedded in the ground covered by old clothing a house.…

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. According to the CIA World Factbook, 80% of Haiti’s population lives below the poverty line (“Central America and Caribbean: Haiti”). This means that the majority of Haitians do not have the money to get the basic necessities in order to survive. Also, Haiti’s annual GDP is $7.346 billion, making it a low-income country (“Central America and Caribbean: Haiti”). Compared to other countries, Haiti’s income is almost nothing. Since they can’t afford even daily necessities, it makes it incredibly difficult for the citizens of Haiti to acquire safe drinking water.…

This summer, I was blessed with an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a mission trip. Of course, I was slightly nervous about traveling to a third world country, where I did not know the language, and the only people I would know would be the people from the church that I was traveling with. However, I knew this would be a life changing experience, so I took the leap! I am so grateful I did because every second was worth it! Our mission was to work with orphans, help homeschool English speaking children, and meet with the women’s group of Grand Savann Christian Church.…

This country has gone through a lot hardship and losses, yet they find strength through God and lean on each other through it. During my experience, it is very obvious how different the healthcare and religion is viewed in Haiti versus the United States. One of the main purposes of this mission trip was to offer clinics to the community of Croix-des-Bouquets and also to the children of Haiti Lifeline Ministries Orphanage. Over the course of our four days of clinics, we saw approximately fifty people a day.…

More specifically, what characteristics do they associate with Haitian people? Most likely, this would be the thought of a natural disaster, poverty, living with nothing. Some might have a thought of their people living in a decrepit shack, eating out of their hands, perhaps even bathing in a creek. Haiti is amongst the poorest countries within the world, however, does this mean Haitians do not live as pleasant lives as people in developed nations do? The culture in Haiti is remarkably different from ours, one that is held extraordinarily close. Once again, this single story of Haitians creates an incomplete depiction of their authentic…

If I had to pick a place to go for a vacation, I would go to Hawaii, United States, a place that is made up of lots of lava and volcanos, is a place with a very unusual history and it is one of the most visited places in the world. My Life In Haiti

I was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to be more specific Cite Soleil and La saline respectively. These two places are probably the most dangerous part of the world, and two of the poorest part of Haiti. From a very young age, I was exposed to events ranging from seeing cadavers in the street almost on a daily basis, drug dealing, authority brutalities to lose a couple of childhood friends due to gang activities. In the midst of my environment disadvantages, my parents were doing a little bit better compared to the rest of our community until I reached the age of 5. One month after my 5th birthday, my life took drastic turn. My mother migrated to the United States (US) and left me in Haiti with my father, who subsequently became a drug addict. My living conditions came from as being ‘doing ok’ to worst. I suffered malnutrition, if it were not for my neighbors I would…

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Majority of the country are at risk of hunger, malnutrition and lack medical supplies. In most rural areas the average family of six earns less than 500 per year. Whereas America is wealthy, has the highest income in the nation, and stable medical care. American and Haitian cultures share some of the same traditions such as music, dance, religion, and rites of passage. Haiti and America share common symbols for instance the most noted national symbols in Haiti are the flag, Henri Christophe’s Citade, and the statue of Maroon Inconnu. The symbols that are important in American cultures similar to Haiti are the Unites States flag, the statue of liberty, and the White House. In both Haitian and American cultures men take up most of the job market. Even though in the United States women are making their way up their way up with the men. Meanwhile in Haiti, only men work as jewelers, construction workers, general laborers, mechanics, and chauffeurs. Most doctors, teachers, and politicians are men however, in Haiti the medical field is made of women. Also in Haitian and American cultures women are responsible for domestic activities such as cooking, housecleaning and caring for the children and expect men to provide. (Haiti 2008)…
