My Challenges and Strategies for Personal Success in Graduate School
Introduction
Graduate study is indeed a huge challenge for me. I have been out of academic school for 38 years. I could imagine how other students are experiencing. Seeking further education, requires well planned directions and commitment. I believe these challenges will need strategies for my personal success. I will state out my personal and professional short and long term goals and analyze strategies for effective communication.
Personal Goal
My personal goal is to help other people who are sick and helpless. I like taking care of my family and help out the best I can. I want career advancement and enjoy learning new things. It is my desire to gain more knowledge and experience by going to graduate school.
Professional Goal
My short term goal is to pursue masters in nursing. I see myself successfully completing the courses required, accomplish organizational skills, enhanced my ability to work well with other people and be a better nurse.
My long term goal is to continue to be an active practicing nurse, using my learned graduate study skills and knowledge through teaching nursing students. Hopefully, in four to five years I will be an expert in the field of nursing.
Challenges in meeting the goals Work is the number one challenge I have. It is a full time job, eight hours a day and five days a week. Going to graduate school is an added load to my busy schedule. Time management is the second challenge. I have to juggle between work and school, listing out priorities and setting up a schedule for work and study. Learning skills in writing is my third challenge. I have been out of academic school for 38 years. It will take a lot of readings and acquiring learning style assessments in order to meet my goals.

Everybody goes through something that is tough in life. For instance, some may have trials and tribulations in school, work, or even at home. For that reason, people find many ways to overcome their problems. Some people could just talk to someone about what they are going through, and they could immediately overcome their complications. This explanation leads to the following question: What is the greatest obstacle to achieving my number one goal? My number one goal is to graduate out of college with a degree to start my career in practical nursing. When I first started college in 2011, I was thinking that college was going to be difficult. During that time, I was taking an Anatomy and Physiology class, and I had too many roads to failing…

The Geographical Bulletin states, (2011) “pursuing a graduate degree is often accompanied by overwhelming demands and expectations.” So it could be difficult to reach ones long-term or short-term goals for success in graduate school. Studies have shown problems with stress and time pressure related to graduate studies and their students are common (Moyer, Salovery & Cannon). Although every student is led to graduate school for very different reasons, both personal, and professional, it is each individual’s success that matters most. Strategic planning and foreseeing that there may be bumps along the path of graduate studies can help students with meeting the demands of graduate school today. Those serious about obtaining a graduate degree may benefit from integrating a personal plan for their success.…
