The Romantics looked to nature as a liberating force, a source of sensual pleasure, moral instruction, religious insight, and artistic inspiration. Eloquent exponents of these ideals, they extolled the mystical powers of nature and argued for more sympathetic styles of garden design in books, manuscripts, and drawings now regarded as core documents of the Romantic Movement. Their cult of inner beauty and their view of the outside world dominated European thought during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.…
My favorite composer and musician is Trent Reznor. Mr. Reznor has been the solitary mind behind the “band” Nine Inch Nails as well as a creating force within many other musical ensembles. He has been referred to as “the most vital artist in music”. When considering historical figures in music, I tend to recognize similarities more within the life and works of Robert Schumann than any other. First and foremost, Schumann was a musical master of the Romantic Era. If Reznor could be placed in any historical era based upon his music, there would be no question that he too would have been a “Romanticist”.…

The period of music that affects me more than others is romanticism. Starting from the humble beginnings of the French Revolution where reason and regard to the rights of individuals were at its peak of either falling or ascending. With the recognition of the newly found freedoms it’s not a surprise that the style of music and literature evolved. Enter Romanticism where the distinction between music was grand, where music had character, and where true life experiences could be told. That liberty is one of many reasons why I enjoyed this period.…
Grady Vandenberg MUS101 9/29/2014 Copeland These early times of music were very interesting in their ways of coming about. As the days of the Roman Catholic Church saw trials and tribulations, through the reformation in the renaissance era a new style of music was born. This new style that began as renaissance music and slowly morphed into the style of baroque and classical through the work of amazing world renowned composers such as George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach. These composers created a style of music in the Baroque era that was different than ever observed before. While the classical era was dominated by composers like Ludwig Van Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn.…

The Romantics rejected the confines of classical convention; for them, originality necessary. They celebrated the emotional and instinctive, and looked towards nature for inspiration. As in any time of change, new musical techniques came about to fit in with the current trends. Composers began to experiment with length of compositions, new harmonies, and tonal relationships. Additionally, there was the increased use of dissonance than before.…
