Bleep!: censoring rock and rap music, 1999. Edited by Betty Houchin Winfield and Sandra Davisdon.…
Nowadays, many racist and corrupt words are being used in hip-hop and rap music. Unfortunately, this genre of music is always played on the radio which is the main reason to why kids, in our time, know and use a lot of these inconvenient words. The only sensational conclusion people came up with to stop the use of such lyrics is the banning of corrupt terms from hip-hop and rap music and the prohibition of these inappropriate words is what John H. McWhorter discusses in “Banning Words from Hip-Hop and Rap Music Would Be Beneficial” (2008). McWhorter’s an African American man and the author of many books on languages and on race relations. His previous works show us that he has the capability of writing about the use of language-related topic.…
The First Amendment to the Bill of Rights exists because the Founders of our country understood the importance of free expression. The First Amendment states "Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press . . ." (Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution 17). One of the ways the American people use this freedom of speech and expression is through the creation of the art form known as music. Music's verbal expression bonds our society through our emotions and experiences. This fundamental right of freedom of expression is being threatened by public and governmental groups who believe they have authority to monitor and decide what others should experience. The censorship of music lyrics is a violation of our First Amendment right, and public groups should not be allowed to bypass this right to censor obscene lyrics produced in the music industry.…
Imagine, if you will, a world where we are told what music to sing, what music to play, and even what we may listen to in the privacy of our own homes. That world already exists as a reality in more countries that you might imagine, and that very reality is knocking on our door: In the USA, lobbying groups have succeeded in keeping popular music off the concert stage, out of the media, and off of the shelves.…
Writers in the “censorship is a must” perspective believes that censorship is important for the general public. Specifically, these writers believe that whoever is in the know must not tell the whole truth to others. People would surely go crazy and should not be allowed to read just any piece of literature. Also, in that respect, not just any piece of literature should be published and writers themselves should be censored, according to this perspective.…

Boris Opening Statement- Censorship in music is a topic that has brought about much controversy in the past two decades. There have been many different arguments on the topic, however the question still remains as if it should be censored or it should not be censored. Before you can form an opinion on this, you must hear both sides of the argument on this much-debated topic. Some people believe that music should be censored so all audiences can hear it without it containing any controversial lyrics. Others believe it should not be censored and musical artists should be able to speak, sing, rap, or rhyme freely without anyone censoring them. Preventing speech is a clear violation of the First Amendment. When you really think about it, it is a violation of the First Amendment, which says: "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech or of the press". The First Amendment guarantees the right to freedom of speech, and censorship is violating peoples' rights to say whatever they…
If you were around in the late 80s, early 90s, and liked rap, there is a good chance you were a fan of one of the most popular rap groups of all time, known as in NWA (which stood for Niggaz Wit Attitudes). NWA started with five original members, including two men who went on to become household names worldwide; Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, and the now actor/director O’shea “Ice Cube” Jackson. NWA's stance on music and freedom of speech has enshrined them as one of the most important, also infamous, music groups in history. Rap music has received a very negative reputation, but it might not be completely deserved. Though rap music may contain explicit lyrics, to censor one’s freedom of speech is an injustice. Music has been a source of conflict between generations throughout history. Can one truly say that people who are exposed to rap music are more prone to hostility?…
Right know you and everybody else's constitutional rights are being violated.Sensor ship is a spreading diesiese that must be stopped. It violates the fist amendment rights. It gives us less freedom to chose. Also it hurts what the artists want to say in their song.Music should not be censored at the rate it is being censored at,…
Music carries many trends from generation to generation, but one of the oldest forms of censorship is what can and can’t be read on paper. Banned books are usually illegal because of certain information that could be a threat to someone or security. Censorship in today’s society can get out of hand real quick on both ends of the issue. It seems like there is always someone who is personally offended by something and tries to take whatever offended them away from everyone else. Then again, if there was no censorship, perhaps collective morals would cease to exist in society. What is not obscene to one person could very well be to another and that is one main reason why censorship does exist. However, that something is obscene to one person shouldn’t forbid another from seeing or hearing that form of expression if they want. Censorship helps gives the right to parents to raise their children in an environment in which parents feel comfortable and it helps parents decide what materials their children can be exposed to and what should be withheld. “We are living in a time when flowers are trying to live on flowers, instead of growing on good rain and black loam,” said Faber. What Faber is talking about is that censorship can also…
Media changes people's perspective on right and wrong. To start it is obvious that Music Can change the mood of most people it is reliable for making people feel different ways. From Up beat songs making people happy or feel good to Sad songs that make people sad as they should. Now for it to change people's perspective on right and wrong i think that for a young person to hear the modern rap music that idealizes drugs and an inappropriate lifestyle i think it can sway a younger person to see the world differently. It may also lead them to try things because they think it's right.…
Music is a place in which many groups of people with different beliefs can put that aside and join. Censorship is simply ruining that. Even more so, it tells stories. Music is a way of telling stories and passing them down the generations. The big time rapper, Eminem, may have explicit content, but all his music is based off personal experiences.…
What does censorship mean in the book Fahrenheit 451 and what role does it play in the society? Censorship is the suppression of speech and public communication on a society because the government thinks it is bad for their people. Ray Bradbury illustrates that the government of this time uses censorship to control their people to believe that books should be burned and that they are harmful, it is also shown that the people of the society are suppressed to the point that they are blind to the outside world and stuck watching the Televisions. The people of the society are so restrained in areas of education and are ignorant to what’s happening around them; this causes them to make mistakes such as killing someone with a car or burning someone alive like the firemen. The themes most seen in the book are censorship, education, and Ignorance; they are shown the most by the three characters of Beatty, Montag, and Faber.…
How can we even consider music censorship when the only reason music is explicit is because musicians are simply being true to themselves? How would you feel if someone wanted to eliminate you from your careers industry just because they didn't like the way that you dressed? Or because of something you said in your…
