Music and Concert
For my concert review I went to see the Buford high school jazz performance i asked some of my friends to join and they agreed. Everyone was relaxed and were enjoying their evening except me, as I was worrying about writing this paper. If I were to use one word to describe their performance that word would be astonishing. At first, hearing that I was required to attend a concert I was completely turned off. I am very closed minded and automatically thought to myself it would be dreadful. That is not the case anymore.
This genre of music is amusing and very pleasing to the ears. The band members are some of the most talented musicians I’ve heard. This was my first time attending a jazz concert. Therefore, I didn’t know what kind of music to expect. This concert was a new experience for me. It was far different from any rock concert held in some big venue. The purpose of this concert was to give people a taste of jazz. This was a jazz concert, but some of the pieces they interpreted were modern. The music that was played was not the kind that makes you does off. I was somewhat excited about attending this concert; I was hoping I wouldn’t be disappointed or get board.
I’ve always loved the sound of a trumpet. My favorite musical group the Dave Matthews Band has a trumpet player, and this is how I started enjoying the sound. Therefore, I knew that this concert must be worth going to. This concert gave me a chance to look deeper into what Jazz music is all about. When I got there I really liked what I heard. I am going to look more into this type of music. This is the type of music that you just want to sit back and relax and listen to. It’s not to slow where you are at the point of falling asleep. Jazz music has got a certain element to it that no other type of music has. In all, this concert was a wonderful experience for me. I found a passion for a different brand of music. The first question I asked myself at the beginning of the concert was how much do I

On Sunday May 2, 2004 I attended a jazz concert with some classmates. The program was entitled Jazz at the Stockmarket. We kind of got lost on the way so we only saw the second half of the show. The Sacramento based musicians were Jim Malone on keyboard, Steve Krohn who played both the guitar and keyboard, Rich Defazio an amazing drummer. That night the band was featuring Ken Stout who is an incredible tenor saxophone player, and also a guest appearance vocalist by the name of Debbie Defazio. There was also a tremendous bass player but his name was not on the program. There was a count off and the music began with a jam-packed house. The first song was called Equinox by John Coltrane. I know I have heard this piece played before at one time or another. When the band played it they added a little taste of their own to it. The song was unique. Ken Stout played two remarkable solos; one in the beginning and on at the end. The Bass player was just fantastic; he flowed with everyone flawlessly in the first piece. The next two bits were written by Steve Krohn, which he dedicated to his three-year-old daughter. One was called Nicole's song. This part of a set was very diverse it included mixes of Christmas and cartoon songs, which blended together perfectly. The song started with a guitar then the saxophone and drums meshed in together. I really enjoyed this piece since it reminded me of the old cartoons I used to watch plus it just made you feel happy inside. I looked around and everybody in the building had a fat smile on his or her face. The next song was entitled Pleasing the Queen. It began with the drummer snapping on the symbols. This song was awesome because there was a total of six solos in the piece. There was some real talent in the band you could feel it in the air.…

    Jazz concert report

I went to Mr. O’Neal’s second jazz concert today, which took place at a little bit far but very nice jazz studio in San Pedro. There was a beautiful neighborhood nearby, and it was the first time I’ve ever been to San Pedro. I was kind of tired since I went there right after I got off from work, but I still be excited and couldn’t wait for the wonderful music. My friends and I had a seat before the concern really started, it was a warm and sweet little room. Then I looked at the little stage in front where Mr. O’Neal’s going to perform later, it was just fit to everything. I like the design of the stage: they had colorful lighting on five separate pieces pure white background , a new classic piano, a bright blue jazz drum which I like the best, and a set of red African drum, they really made me look forward to the show. My friend also ordered the pizza the Mr. O’Neal recommended, and we were ready to enjoy the concert!…

For my humanities report, I attended the Wind Ensemble concert at the Timko Barton lobby on October 8, 2015. The concert was so inspiring and refreshing for me since I love music and am currently studying music. Sitting with some many people and listening to beautiful music from a variety of genres was so restoring to the soul. Dr. John Jenkins, the director, was so motivating in every piece of music and of the program. The concert program ran smoothly as the ensemble band transitioned gradually to each different song piece. In addition the scenery added to the peaceful presence during the show. Since the concert took place in the lobby of the music hall, people saw the bright lights coming from the ceiling and they also enjoyed to majestic surrounding of the large glass windows. The Wind Ensemble concert event was a smoothing time to reflect on…

For my concert review, I went to see the performance of Maynard Ferguson and his big band at Jazz Alley on Jan. 12th 2005. I asked some of my friends to join and they gladly agreed. Since two of my friends were a musician themselves and loved seeing live music whenever possible. They even went ahead and made a reservation. First time in Jazz Alley, the place was filled with various groups of people eating, drinking, and chatting. Our table was in good position, plus I was able to see the stage very well. We ordered some cocktails and everyone looked relaxed and enjoying their evening… except me, as I was worrying about writing a paper. I started to write the names of the players and the instruments they play; getting ready to take some notes. But since when they started to play, I only wrote the names of the songs; cause my self was already busy enjoying the concert too.…

The first section of the concert was the most delightful and satisfying to listen to. The violins and woodwinds were the main melody for most of the piece. Both instrument made the texture of the beginning very calm and satisfying by playing legato notes that gradually crescendo/decrescendo. The texture made me to feel relaxed and at ease. I would describe the text painting as a calm ocean, the feeling of drifting in calm water. Half way through the piece, the clarinets and flutes began to follow the entire orchestra and its smooth tempo, which inevitably became louder and more powerful near the end of the piece.…

The name of the concert that I attended was called “TCU Jazz Combos” and featured a variety of jazz compositions. This concert took place in the Pepsico Recital Hall on November 14, 2012 at 7:00 in the evening. The event was casual; however, I chose to wear khaki pants and a button down shirt because I was not certain as to what the dress code would be. The performers’ names and their respective instruments were Mike Korson- Saxophone, Garrett Wingfield- Saxophone, Luke Wingfield- Trumpet, Alex Neal- Guitar, Edo Frenkel- Piano, Will Gilstrap- Bass, Russell Wharton- Drums, and Tanner Webb- Trombone. During the concert they played various jazz compositions written by some of the very performers themselves. Several other pieces were more well known jazz compositions from internationally recognized artists. The concert itself was not very crowded, with pockets of individuals scattered throughout the audience. There was definitely interaction between the performers and the audience. I found this aspect of the jazz concert to be unique to other concerts. Jazz concerts are significantly less formal than classical orchestra concerts or even piano concerts in which applause is saved for the very end. In jazz concerts, after a solo it is considered appropriate to applaud, even during the middle of a piece. Having never attended a jazz concert before, I found this to be a wonderful learning experience.…

This was second time I listen to a Jazz concert in our school. Our players always keep a high quality of performance. Besides this relaxed type of performance I also used to go to Chopin’s symphony and other different kind of operas. Listen to a concert performed in the school and played by our schoolmates seems to be more joyful and comfortable. Our players might do not have a professional techniques or organized as the technical symphony orchestra. But their enjoyable and love of music are same which can bring our audience into their atmosphere and move our body along with their playing.…

The appearance and behavior of the performers contributed to the casual feeling of the concert as well. All the performers were wearing normal day clothes and were not formally introduced. On March 4, 2012, the DuPage Community Concert Band performed American Titled Songs at the College of DuPage. They performed a total of seven songs. I really enjoyed this concert. It featured many instruments like the trumpet, tuba and trombone. It was different from the concert I attended for my first concert report because it did not feature any stringed instruments. Something I found very different and unusual was the lack of audience involvement in the performance. It was odd for me to have to hold back my applause until the end of the performances. This concert featured many upbeat and patriotic songs. I enjoyed it because of this reason.…

Unlike the first concert I went to a few months ago this one actually grabbed my attention. Every ensemble was very talented and something different to bring to the table. The many songs performed in the concert were all very well put together pieces. Though out of the eleven songs played I picked three of which I really enjoyed the most. All three songs were performed by the first ensemble directed by Mark Buselli. The first song was That Old Black Magic. The song contained a brief saxophone solo that was played very swiftly. I found the song particularly interesting because it was…

On Saturday 28th I went to The Globe Café in Coral Gables, I got there with my brother exactly at 8pm and sat on a high table just in front of the band. We got there just before they started playing and stayed for the whole first session that was just over an hour. The Café was real nice, It wasn’t far from where I live and there was no traffic coming in, it is situated in a very nice part of Coral Gables just two blocks from Miracle Mile, that was perfect because parking was amazing, I parked in front of the place. The Café was real nice, it had a bar and about 11 eleven tables (later when I went to the bathroom I realized it had a whole other bar and lounge area on the back). The Globe was very pleasant, the bar area…
