It has been observed that Iloilo City which is classified as highly urbanized city in Iloilo, Philippines, is now facing solid wastes problem resulting to a lot of environmental problems such as flood, pollution, congestion and others. This is due to the existence of the fast-growing industries in the city, which encourage the rural people to flock in the city for better employment opportunities. Alarmed by this problem, the Local Government Units (LGUs) have realized the need to improve the methods and ways in handling the solid wastes to ensure protection of public health and environment from any harm caused by these wastes.…

The working title of the study is initially drafted as: level of awareness of BSMT students on proper disposal of garbage and Effective Solid Waste Management - Role of Environment Education Program. In particular, the research will focus on how environmental education program could effectively lead to effective solid waste management. The paper discusses in detail the research proposal of the topic. Solid waste management is the polite term for garbage management, a system of handling the amount of garbage generated by BSMT students. In this research proposal, the background and problem of the study are presented; the objectives of the study are formulated. Here, vital concepts, questions and assumptions are stated. Properly disposing of waste is not just a personal responsibility; some kinds of waste, usually hazardous, must be properly disposed. Today cleanliness is the most important thing in both the homes and in a society. Taking care of the environment is a big responsibility. Since disposing of garbage and wastes maintains sanitary in the envorinment, everybody should also care about the beauty of their surroundings. Home garbages and some other solid wates should certainly be cleared out and be burned to keep the weather of the environment clean, however it is not always the case to burn kinds of wastes and totally get rid of them though. Thus, recycling solid wastes can also be reused to produce materials over again, such nylon and glass bottles, paper and plastic materials. In almost many developed countries, the governments have provided certain trash cans for the reusable items while in Iraq this important service has still not been supplied. Therefore, since we can make use of some solid waste products, the vicinities in Iraq needs to be more cared about by both the people and the government. My point in this essay is that, as a recommendation for the government, particular trash cans must be provided in the public places.…

The condition of environment is of vitalconcern for mankind, since it is directly linked with human welfare. The sheer size of many cities and their runaway growth rates makes the growth rate alarming of wastes. A sample survey indicated that about 350-400 grams of per capita per day solid waste is generated in an average Indian town. Collection and disposal of solidwaste alone already consumes upto 50 per cent of some municipal operating budgets and only 50-70 per cent of urban trash is usually collected (Kala and Khan, 1994). Organic waste is the component of solid waste which when left uncleared causes various infectious diseases Generally, people use to throw garbage all around the Municipal committee bins and not inside the bin. Some don’t even bother to come near the bin and throw garbage in open spaces or parks. Most people feel that the job of keeping neighbourhood clean is that of Municipal corporation. Generally people don’t dispose the garbage properly and dump it almost anywhere outside the house. The present study was thus planned to study the mode of garbage disposal by urban families.…

The World Book Dictionary defines waste as “useless or worthless material”. Such materials/items that people no longer use and discard are called as waste. These items range from household rubbish, sewage, sludge, municipal waste, waste from manufacturing activity, nuclear waste, agricultural waste, etc. These waste materials if not treated and handled properly can create a number of problems associated with soil, air and water. With growing population and material consumption rates, Indian cities need adequate waste management practices to prevent waste from becoming a health hazard. Rapid increase in the use of plastics, paper and electronics has made the solid wastes a significant portion of waste generated from households.…
