Mritunjay- the Story of the Karna
• Amazing book on the life of Karna, the famous warrior who participated in the great Mahabharata war. The story has an inimitable style. There are various characters involved with the life of Karna and the author had brought them to life by actually making them tell their story. And the continuity about the life story of Karna is not lost. This is the wonderful part of narrating a story where each important character speaks to you and expresses his or her story, their roles. The story has really done a justice to the characters and the role model that Karna played in the great epic. This style of presenting a story I believe was first introduced by V. S. Khandekar in his Award winning novel "Yayati" (which is another stupendous novel). And was adopted by Shivaji Sawant. The best part of the story is the years of research that went in developing this story from a 4 thousand year old epic. The book presents the story in its best possible authentic form. It is hard not to lose yourself in the world created by the author which though thousands of years old is made contemporary by the human feelings and thoughts that are timeless. The characters in the book have not been glorified as pious heroes and helps to make it easier to identify to real world then to some mystic story. The great story telling power of Shivaji Sawant and his thought provoking underliners about the duties of man are an eye opener. This was the first Marathi novel that I read and fell in love with it and with it the Marathi literature. Hats off to you Mr.

I’m currently a Grade 12 student from Chongqing Maple Leaf School, China, and our class has just finished one of the Grade 12’s novels “The Song of Kahunsha”. It’s my honor to illustrate my experience to you about reading books. My classmates and I find that the language of the novel is quite easy to follow and to be honest, I feel shock still now. Anosh Irani uses the protagonist, Chamdi, who is about the same age as us in the novel, helps us feel more than others.…

The role of religion has been a major factor of every culture for as long as anyone can remember. The feeling of togetherness that comes with belonging to a group of people that believe in the same ideas and a central entity defines a person and the way they see the world. Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner shows the impact of a certain belief on a tribe of Eskimos in Igloolik, a village in Eastern Arctic wilderness, at the dawn of the first millennium. An evil curse was said to be following one member of the tribe, Oki, because of his jealousy of Atanarjuat. The film follows the lives of these two men and the conflicts they have as they grow older. It also focuses on the spiritual ideas that drive both Oki and Atanarjuat, and their other tribe members, to drastic actions.…

The story of Naan begins many years ago in the imperial court of Delhi. The Sultan of ancient India in 1320 was Khusro Khan, or Nasiruddin, and he (like his predecessors) was used to fine dining. Sanskrit and Play

    • 1594 Words

The eighty pages of essays, covering three different aspects of Kalidasa and Sanskrit drama, and the solid critical apparatus (though the actual notes are a bit thin), as well the fact that it makes the other two Kalidasa plays easily available, does make this an appealing edition. It is not, however, ideal. Miller's translation is solid, with a few inspired touches, but it does not stand out among the competition. In addition, more supporting material, and more extensive notes focussed specifically on the play would have been welcome.…

The Ramayana by R.K. Narayan's is an epic story that provides insights into many aspects of Indian culture and still today influences the politics, religion and art of modern India. He based his novel on a poem from one of India's great Sanskrit epics also called "Ramayana." He revived this ancient story and condensed it and set in modern times. This is story of adventure and friendship as well as a story of psychological insight, spiritual meaning and of wisdom. R.K. Narayan does an excellent job of portraying all these aspects throughout his novel. The meanings of The Ramayana are found through the actions and personalities of its principal characters. It is part of the sacred literature for the Hindus because it speaks of the meaning of life. And how one should learn from this meaning and grow as a person and Hindu.…
