Mr Liddle's View Of Cycling

Dear Sir, I am writing to inform you that I was outraged and furious when reading Mr Liddle’s recent article on his view of cycling and I couldn’t disagree with it more! I think that the article should be removed due to the many ‘jokes’ made at cyclists’ expense.
Mr Liddle throughout his article puts forward lots of opinions, which we cyclists do not agree with towards the start of the article, he mocks us for ‘arrogantly’ suggesting we are saving the planet. Each gallon of petrol, burned in an average car’s engine blows 19.4 pounds of CO2 out the exhaust and directly into Earth’s atmosphere, but riding a bike produces nothing and as a bonus, we’re losing weight.

His mockery is just completely unnecessary. Just because we cyclists are bothered about our personal CO2 emissions and are prepared to put in the effort to do something about it doesn’t mean that Mr Liddle can mock us for doing something we love. I would guess that Mr Liddle is not a keen cyclist but I suggest he should try it! It might do him a bit of good, getting him out of the office. When Mr Liddle says that cyclists are a menace to society, that’s just an assumption. There might be the odd cyclist that is inconsiderate and won’t let you pass, but in reality there are always people who are rude but it happens in all walks of life! In reality it is more likely to be the ignorant drivers that think nothing more than mowing down a few cyclists is a great idea who are the problems here. His statement “I am worried that not enough cyclists are being killed on our roads each year” is morally wrong, claiming that they are like a different species and they need to be exterminated. Also, the way he refers to the Tour De France as just a bike race. When it is one of, if not the biggest cycling races in the world and a huge personal achievement for Sir Bradley Wiggins to come anywhere the podium. I think this was just plainly insulting towards cyclists and the winners of the ‘bike

This case pertains to us because as we MPs' work the road or the gate, we have to remember the rules both big and small in order to ensure that we follow the neccessary procedures to doing things the right way. This will help us if a case like this ever arises, and will prevent us from getting caught doing the wrong thing and keep every amount of evidence so we can to make sure that any future violaters of the law are rightfully punished for any crimes they may have committed.…

With the evolution of hybrid vehicles some consumers have made a commitment to affect the environment in a very positive way. A hybrid car is a vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power. Cities like Seattle have public busses that run on diesel but are also electric and powered by wires throughout the city. Once away from these wires, the diesel engine starts to function as a second contributor to the movement of the bus, but the electric engine is mainly functioning throughout the lifespan of these public busses. This system produces a minimum amount of negative carbon released into the atmosphere. Although cities have adopted this requisite, people are starting to adjust to it as well. Not only does owning a hybrid vehicle benefit the future, but also getting extraordinary mileage to the gallon is economical.…

An amount averaged to 250 lbs of approximate CO2 emissions a year per household are daunting when multiplied by the thousands of houses in a community and the millions across the country. Source C refutes the food miles versus amount transported per gallon, but the comparison is unrealistic; asserting that an unrealistically low local production, “50 apples”, and not accounting for the mode. A farmer’s pick-up truck uses considerably less harmful fuel than the airplane loaded with…

This picture contends how lance Armstrong looks when he is off drugs. The pump represents drugs and it show that if lance Armstrong has no drugs in him he won’t perform as good and get and advantage over other competitors. The illustrator has used Exaggeration in this cartoon. There is no such thing as a deflated person. Exaggeration is shown through the deflated and exhausted Lance Armstrong, this makes the audience think about why the illustrator did this and what purpose did it have. The illustrator has also used a visual metaphor. The visual metaphor is seen through the bike pump. This visual metaphor tells the audience that Lance Armstrong is not a fair player which makes him a cheater.…

“…I want to consider whether there might be any reason to reduce one’s personal emissions even if [Sinnott-Armstrong is] right that doing so has no direct consequentialist payoff, that is, even if they are right that a reduction in emissions on one person’s part will result in nonexistent or negligible net change in greenhouse gas emissions overall.” (460, Hourdequin) Integrity is important when it comes to watching the effects of global warming. In order to understand an individual’s obligation to the environment there are two things of integrity; integration and integrality. There is no set…

One thing that affects the atmosphere very much is cars. The pollution from cars kills animals, plants, and other organisms. (Document F) Organisms have to be rescued, if they continue dying, the world will be left with no resources. If people just walked instead of using a car at least a day of each week, many organisms would be saved. The government has many options they could take to reduce greenhouse gasses, for example The Kyoto Protocol. (Document K) The problem is that they don’t believe it is happening.…

The first thing that I realized when walking the line of a biker was that people are very judgmental based on merely looks alone. While some students I encountered instantly realized that I was only in a costume, others, teachers for example, did not see through what I was doing. Even when students realized that I was not a real biker, they still glared with non-entertained eyes as if I were some kind of fool. When I was instructed to enter the student services office to request my class schedule, I was met with great hostility by the woman working behind the desk. I requested a simple task, but because of my appearance, the lady made it out to seem as if I had asked for her first born child. Her negative judgment was evident through her body language and lack of motivation to help. On a more positive note, some subjects of our…

For example, if a person shares their car with friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family when driving in similar directions on a regular basis or if a person decide to use a public transportation, they will save 30 grams of CO2 per every 4, 5 kilometers that they do not lead. For every liter of fuel that burns the engine of a car, there is liberated an average of 2, 5 kilos of CO2, according to the European Commission. Important to realize,72% of the total emitted greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), which has been dramatically increased within the last 50 years and is still increasing by almost 3% each year.…
