Mr Holland Accomplishments
Mr. Holland's Opus Mr. Holland's expectations of being a teacher were unrealistic. He thought that he would have a lot of free time to write his music. He also thought that his job stayed at school. At the end of the day he wanted to just go home. It did not work that way though. This ended up changing. He became very involved, so involved that when he lost his job, he wasn't fighting for his job but instead for the education of the students. Teaching is something that requires commitment. The students are counting on their teacher to be there for them if they need it. It is a very demanding job with little free time. Mr. Holland related his experience with Coltrane to the pregnancy of his wife. It also relates very much to his …show more content…
Holland has changed throughout the years. At the beginning he was relatively uninvolved with the students. He only taught during school when he had to. He started to help more at other times such as before school and after. He began to enjoy helping students and learn how to play instrument and sing. He got more and more involved in their lives. He changed with the students. Whatever was going on in society such as rock and roll, Mr. Holland tried to relate what he was teaching to things of interest for the students. During the time of John Lennon's death, he had the band play a song by John Lennon. When Mr. Holland lost his job, he was actually sad. It became more than just a paycheck to …show more content…
I liked how he had problems. He didn't have the perfect family. His son was deaf. He didn't have a lot of money. I liked seeing how special teaching can be. He was very skeptical at the beginning but the art of teaching worked its magic on him and he grew to love it. I think that getting involved with a student no matter how insignificant it may seem is horrible. I did not like that at all. I was glad to see that student go. I think that the ending of the movie was really good. All of the students whose lives he had influenced and touched in some way came together. Everyone supported him and recognized the impact that he had made on the lives of so many. I think that this movie showed a wonderful example of a reward to teaching that is far greater than the money or other benefits that may be involved. On a whole I think this is a wonderful movie not only for music teachers but for all

In his beginning years, Jesness believed in giving appropriate grades. However; once he started failing students, the principal and parents took notice. Every time he sent a student to the office, it was just more “evidence” that “he could not handle a classroom.” Making it impossible for him to teach, Jesness left his teaching career for one year.…

To know that he was capable of moving and getting through all the setbacks that arise makes me feel like I’m capable of enduring any challenges in life. For him to constantly get rejected even by his family shows how strong of an individual he is. It seem like he went through everything that you could go through to create a successful movement from the strikes to the grape boycott to the fast that he endured for 25 days. For someone with the health that he already have last 25 days without food really shows what someone is capable of doing when there mind is set on the goal. The film overall taught me a lot about the Mexican culture and the things that they went through throughout their history in California. I now have a different perspective on farm workers and what it takes to be able survive such horrific circumstances. The presentation made me feel as if I don’t know as much as I should know about history for every race and class throughout our history. This occurred not that long ago and is still an issue in the United States today. We see numerous people working for starvation wages that cannot improve the circumstance that their almost stuck in. It inspired make a change within the area that live and make sure everyone has their rights to the basic necessities of life. It also offended me that we as a nation could treat a group…

I use to think that being a teacher was going to be a short eight hours of teaching and being with children. Having summers off made being a teacher seem a lot more beneficial to. Being a teacher seemed to be the easiest career choice out there for me. After viewing the second grade classroom in Shepherdstown Elementary it is safe to say that I have changed my opinion of teaching. There is unquestionably another side to the world of a teacher that can only be seen inside a classroom. Watching the students made me realize that being a teacher will no doubt carry some difficulties but, it will all pay off in the end. Observing has made me realize that there is more to teaching, the classroom, and what goes on inside.…

Teachers are an essential elements of any society, and although their actions and intention are often positive there are nevertheless scenarios in which they fail at their task. Within ‘Maestro’, Peter Goldsworthy portrays how a teacher can have both positive and negative effects on their pupil, how they can succeed in one element and wane in another. In some respects, Paul Crabbe’s teacher, Eduard Keller, has a devastating effect on his pupil’s life. Due to the maestri’s terrible and tragic past he forces Paul to concentrate on technique and because of his almost fatherly expectations of Paul judges him critically. Although in this case, he can be viewed as the ‘worst possible teacher’ it is also the arrogance of Paul, himself, that culminates in his failures to become a concert pianist. Keller attempts to teach Paul about life where other teachers may simply have swelled Paul’s already arrogant personality and failed to diminish his selfish and egotism: two factors which lead Paul down a patch to his own personalised and ‘dissatisfied’ life.…

Teaching is sacrificial and it is a calling for those who have a servant’s heart. I am frequently reminded of a student in my Beginning Band class two decades ago. His name was Carlton and he was a special needs student in sixth grade. Carlton desperately wanted to learn to play the Baritone horn well enough that he could perform on the Spring Band Concert but band rehearsals were short and he needed more help. So, he and I agreed that he would skip recess and I would skip lunch a few times each week to practice together. Carlton played on that concert and him doing so was just as rewarding to me as it was to him.…

For ancient time, teachers have played an important role in society. Behind every successful person, there is a teacher. Nowadays, both parents are too busy earning money because of the high living expenses, so the teacher is expected to build a strong moral character and provide emotional support for the students. To achieve this, by the definition of John Lembo who is the author of “Why Teachers Fail,” has four qualities: (1) “he can engage students in an open and trusting relationship by his capacity to listen and accept; (2) he is skilled in the use of different diagnostic, planning, facilitative and evaluative procedure and is knowledgeable about their limitations; (3) he is experimental in his general attitude toward identifying and providing appropriate learning conditions; and (4) he can look at his own beliefs, feeling and behavior openly and can find ways to make them more constructive to himself and others.”(Lembo) Dewey Finn is a substitute teacher after he gets fired from his own band in School of Rock. At the beginning, he accepts the job by pretending to be his best friend Ned Schneebly who is supposed to be the substitute teacher of the prestigious prep school, Horace Green. Finn eventually turns the outstanding students from Horace Green to a group of rockers. The process is adventurous, meaningful and touching. However, He meets the four qualities of a competent teacher which are definite by Lembo. He promises a trustful relationship with his students; he finds out what his students’ talent and does not waste it; he brings rock to the class and teaches his students what they cannot find in a proper pre-school; and he is awareness of his own mistake.…
