Movie Summary: The Dangers Of High School Football
This movie made me feel very thrown off with my overall perspective of football and how it is played and it's dangers. I felt very scared for the players and mad at the coaches/ other leaders for not taking better care of their players. The way this game can affect someone's life is horrible. People think this game is just simple fun and good times but behind the scenes many people get serious problems from playing it and it also can affect other people's lives like their families. But, on the other hand the players knew that this game is not safe and that they could get hurt. I was very disappointed while watching this because I never thought about the long term injuries some football players can have because of playing this sport. I was also disappointed that no one really cares enough about the lives of the players enough to speak up about it. Instead everyone just watches people get hit and knocked over and they don't care about that but they do care when someone scores a touchdown.

I do not think I would support the nfl after seeing this movie. Even though it is a great sport it is beyond dangerous and unsafe for

You could probably see the same effect but the chances are very low. The injuries probably start to form in high school and become more dangerous in the nfl because more hitting occurs and the men are stronger and have more weight/ muscle to them in the nfl. High school football is more safe and even though they do tackle, it is not as hard as a hit from an nfl player.

Overall the nfl is dangerous and I do not feel like it is a very unsafe business. I do not support the nfl and their decisions and I do think big changes need to be made to the game and the safety precautions. I also do not think high school football has the same effects but I do think they can still be hurt if the refs and coaches do not pay enough attention to the

The new rules in the National Football League are changing the way the game is being played and the way it affects the players. One of the many ways it affects the players is benefiting their health, and that’s why most of the new rules are added into the NFL. There is an average of 128 concussions per year and about nine concussions per week. There are positive ends and negative ends of the whole situation that can make the game boring for the players and also the spectators. This also makes the game safer for the players in their long-term life from their kids to their own health. The NFL could be changing for the better, or for the worse of it.…

Frontline’s description of the documentary is very brief and states it “reveals the hidden story of the NFL and brain injuries.” I picked the documentary because it sounded interesting but Frontline’s description didn’t give me enough information about the film that I wanted. So I researched it more and found that the documentary dives into brain injuries and, more specifically, concussions inside the NFL. It talks about what they are, how athletes get them, when the NFL started taking them more serious and what kind of precautions the NFL are taking to prevent them now. The documentary explores the information through real footage and interviews with athletes, coaches, different physicians and other people involved with the injuries.…

If the NFL truly cares about its players like they preach, then they should be taking stronger actions than they have now. The NFL should be enforcing stronger punishments and investing more money towards research of concussions and head trauma in the league. This would better the NFL and its players by making it a much safer league. In the end players want to remember their time on the field, not forget it from not being protected…

“Pro football is like nuclear warfare. There are no winners, only survivors.” -Frank Gifford. Football is a full contact sport, so it is not supposed to be safe, and no one ever expected it to be safe. Recently the effects of countless head injuries endured by players many years ago had just started to surface. The NFL has started to attempt to make professional football as safe as they possibly can without ruining the game. The majority of the rules the NFL has in place are necessary when it comes to how the game is played and maintaining the safest environment on the football field for the players, however some of the other rules being added to the rulebook are arguably unnecessary and truthfully ridiculous. Players are more often than not…

We all know the classic NFL(National Football League). It is certainly fun to watch, but how to the players feel when they play? Football concussions are a big deal when it comes to mental and physical stability. NFL players may be able to sustain through concussions and pain (even though it is a bad thing to ignore), but teenagers, on the other hand, shouldn’t try to fight the pain. High schools should not be able to run football teams knowing the dangers of the sport. Teenagers are more susceptible to get life-threatening brain damage from a concussion. Not only can football cause concussions, it can cause pain or permanent damage in other places of the human body.…

Similar to other sports football playing has unhealthy long term repercussions like Alzheimer's and memory loss. It would be extremely unknowledgeble to believe that a contact sport like football that has been professionally played by athletes for just over 90 years, would not lead to mental problems. The idea of destroying the game of football seems impossible due to to the millions who enjoy the game and the individuals who have made careers out of not only participating in the activity for most of the year, but the people who are responsible for the events even happening. Destroying Sunday night football or the annual super bowl is absurd and will not be done easily. Furthermore, if football is destroyed because of brain damage…

The NFL has been the subject of some scrutiny from the media and retired players in the past few years. They recently paid $765 million to former players and their families in a concussion lawsuit settlement. (NFL.com) "We now have a fund that is there for players and their families if they are having any issues. We also are going to baseline those players. If they develop neurocognitive issues, there will be a fund there for them." Said Commissioner Roger Goodell. (NFL.com) On top of making the fund for retired players the NFL has also implemented several new rules to help current players reduce the risk of injury. While these new rules are a start, these are only the beginning steps to further preventing serious injuries caused to players.…

Doctors proved that, “Recent studies have shown that head injuries sustained by NFL players can eventually lead to debilitating, chronic brain diseases such as dementia” (“NFL Head Injuries). This is a problem because the NFL isn’t doing enough to protect their players. Yes, the players do provide entertainment for everyone, but if the NFL keeps being careless many franchise players won’t be able to play. NFL players should be better protected by the NFL so players don’t develop brain disease, and won’t have to get sidelined during games due to concussions. Doctors researched and found out that, “A total of 87 out of 91 former NFL players have tested positive for the brain disease” (“FRONTLINE”). This shows that the NFL doesn’t protect their players enough. Only 4 former NFL players out of 91 weren’t diagnosed with concussions. The NFL needs to take better care of players so this doesn’t happen as often. Although brain diseases due to concussions are a tremendous problem, one thing that is much worse than that is a player's chances of getting another concussion. Once a player suffers their first concussions they are more likely to develop a concussion. “Studies show, after the first concussion, the athlete is four times more likely to suffer another” (“Concussions in Sports”). This is very important because as players get more and more concussions. Eventually they will develop permanent brain damage or they…

Many people have argued that, “Should we ban high school football?” One of the main reason’s why we should outlaw the sport is due to head injuries, or injuries in general. While the player’s health is what has been affected personally, the NFL’s bank account had suffered: “Settlement will cost the NFL $1 billion over 65 years to resolve lawsuits and average individual awards would be about $190,000” (Gerken). Retired player’s health is a growing concern with studies: “1,063 players were asked if they had dementia or Alzheimer’s. 2 percent of players ages 30 to 49 said yes. For retired players over 50, 6 percent said yes” (Bhimani). While these statistics may seem small, they are much greater than their age groups percentage in the general population. NFL players aged 30 to 49 have a 19 times higher rate than the general population to have dementia or Alzheimer’s. Players 50 or older have a 6 times greater risk for these diseases. The future for players isn’t look bright either: “Projections predict 6,000 of nearly 20,000 players could develop Alzheimer’s or dementia in their lifetime. The risks to have these diseases increase with the amount of concussions you…
