There are several ways an induvial can show their leadership abilities. The movie Remember the Titans (2000) is a great example that describe leadership and teamwork in various ways. Remember the Titans (2000) is a true story of a newly appointed African American football coach and his high school team on their first season as a racially integrated school. This paper would analyze the leadership traits of three of the key characters I the movie Remember the Titans (2000). It would also provide examples of each key character’s leadership style, decision making and outcomes; and utilize a theoretical leadership foundation to discuss the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of each character.

Coach Boone was the black football coach that replaced the head coach when the two schools got integrated. Coach Boone was a transactional leader because he had the ability to make his players agree and respect him. If any of his players did not meet his standards he would punish them. According to Burns, a transactional leader motivates their followers by appealing to their self-interest and exchanging benefits (Yulk, 2012). Another key character is Coach Bill Yoast, who was played by Will Patton. Coach Yoast was the former head coach of the titans that got replace by Coach Boone, Coach Yoast is considered as a participative leader because he consider the opinion of all the players on the team. Lastly, Gerry Bertier is another key character in the movie, who was played by Ryan Hurst. Gerry was the captain of the team and was very determine to have is way.
