Mount Vernon Was George Washington's House
Mount Vernon was George Washington’s house. This building was built in 1735 by Washington’s father, Augustine. This estate started out as a one and a half story farm house. It received its name from one of its previous owners. Finally in 1754 George Washington came in possesion of Mount Vernon. George began to upgrade the house more and more over the years that he stayed in the house. This house began to grow and grow and started to look more like a mansion than a house. This estate turned out to be a twenty-one room 11,028 square foot, two and a half story mansion.
