Contexts that Motivate Learning.
Motivational learning can be broken into four contexts. Those contexts are: Practical, Personal, Experiential, and Idealistic. The practical context of learning would be learning something because you know in advance it will benefit you. The personal context of learning would be learning something for personal gain or because you want to accomplish an important goal or goals. The experiential context of learning would be learning something because of your past experiences. The idealistic context of learning would be learning something because you want to explore ideas, theories and concepts to experience the discovery of something new. There are four main contexts that motivate people to learn and everyone has their own reasons.
Personal Context of Motivation.
I decided to return to school for personal reasons. I have wanted to return to school for a long time. I guess I was just always to busy and kept telling my self I will do it later or next year. Instead I got into the construction industry as a laborer. I got tired of working my fingers to the bone for very little. That is when I decided to return to school and get a degree in something I love doing and working with. I also like the idea of making more money and being a better provider. I also want to better my self as a person.

Motivation is important for student success because that is what keeps us going in our quest for greater knowledge. If somebody had to sit for 8 hours a day and read a stack of books in front of him or her every day, but was not told which book to read, or why they had to read them it would not make a lot of sense. The person who had to read the books maybe would look at the titles and perhaps even read one of them, but boredom would set in. That is where motivation comes in.…

The third reason I decided to return back to school is so that I can gain more knowledge and experience in my field. Lastly, my goal is to be happy and healthy…

I have several personal reasons for returning to school. I take my personal goals very seriously. Some might say that I am my own worst critic and I am very hard on myself. I simply feel that I can and will do better and I do not settle for anything but the best out of myself. Ultimately, I have to live with myself and the decisions I make on a daily basis for the rest of my life. I must fulfill my own personal goals otherwise I am not giving myself to others completely. I have very clear and specific personal goals.…

I decided to go back to school because I have always wanted to complete my college degree. I am at a time in my life where I am not focused on education for everyone else in my family. I have regretted not completing my degree for years. I had to put my education on hold while I worked to pay my children's way through college and my husbands way through law school which was all at the same time. The end result of those four years was worth the hard work! This is my time now. Having this degree will help me have a second career if I choose to do so. You should not be surprised to discover that no single theoretical interpretation of motivation explains all aspects of student interest or lack of it. Different theoretical interpretations do, however, shed light on why some students in a given learning situation are more likely to want to learn than others. Furthermore, each theoretical interpretation can serve as the basis for…
