The Miracle

I used to watch stars and be fascinated by them, by the days and nights and the change in the weather. Since childhood, I used to wonder what’s out there, whether or not will I ever find out. I was so lost in the space that I missed to see what’s next to me, what’s near to me. Only at a certain age, after being on field trips and travelling around that I really started to appreciate the flora and fauna around me; different organisms that lived on the planet and their interaction with the humans and I knew right at that moment that I would want to do something related to the study of life and living organisms, about their function, their growth, how they evolved.

It was an easy task for me after I completed my Secondary education which field would I want to go ahead with. The study still fascinated me as I got to the depth of the knowledge I could obtain. Soon I learned the uses of studying Biology and how it could help the future with the varied fields it has to offer to students. Stem cell biology fascinated me the most when I understood more and more about this cell and I personally call it the Magic cell.

Later on, my father a very close person to me passed away at an early age as he had an immune system related disorder, Diabetes. This, not only made me passionate about the subject even more but gave me a direction that I would want to do research in the future to the best of my capabilities and be a successful scientist.

As I completed my higher education, I moved on and successfully completed my bachelors with a greater insight about the subject. Father being the backbone of any Indian family, I had to wait until I could further start with my Master. I had a hunger for more development which I found in an organization called as AIESEC. It being the world’s largest student run organization had so much to offer. I joined it during my bachelor to develop myself as an individual. I also took up several jobs after my bachelors which gave

It convinced me to pursue a path in medicine, so I could learn how to work the intricacies of our internal wiring. Taking AP Psychology also opened to me the field of neurology- the foray into the complex chemistry of our brains. I found beauty in the brain’s delicate neural pathways that housed entire lifetimes of memories, and the unique ability of introspection. Along with classes, I participated in medical-oriented clubs such as Health Professionals of America, which helped me experience life in the medical field. As well as clubs, I was an active player in the Girl’s Basketball team in freshman year. I also take archery lessons to improve my dexterity and stamina, which taught me the importance of persistence for improvement. Both my family and my own interest in medicine inspired me to pursue a career path towards Biology in college. Since medicine is increasingly becoming more corporal, I chose to complete a double degree in Biology and Healthcare Management- an option that only UT Dallas…

In high school, I had the opportunity to learn about a number of different subjects, starting from introduction to engineering to world history. Out of the many choices, there was only one that captivated me: Biomedical science. When I walked into class on the first day of school, I saw a cadaver at the back of my classroom. My teacher had told the class to find out why this lady had died, and I was the first in my class to find out. The poor lady had died from a clogged artery. As a child I had dreamed of being an engineer, exploring and developing complex systems for the world, but on that day I realized that biology was the right path for my future. Earth's organisms never failed to excite me with their seemingly never-ending intricacies.…

I had yet to step foot in a lab or even knew what flasks, beakers, or pipettes were. Moreover, all the introductory science material seemed scattered and meaningless to me. Nevertheless, I studied longer, sought help from my professors, watched countless YouTube videos, and did not allow my initial failures to discourage me. Through preserving, my grades improved, and I got accepted into a summer research program during which my love for science manifested. The experience brought out my curiosity of life as I sought to understand one small part of it, and it humbled me as I learned just how little I know. Moreover, I enjoyed how I had to integrate basic scientific concepts to understand a complex process in our bodies. Suddenly, all the seemingly mundane material had a purpose. Slowly, all the pieces of the puzzle were coming…
