When an adult decides to go to back to school, that person can be motivated by a variety of things. Studies show it can be categorize in four different contexts Practical, Personal, Experiential and Idealistic. Practical context can be described as a learning tool for a person who wants to learn something that can benefit them now or in the future. Personal context is described when a person wants to learn for personal gain or to achieve an important goal. Experiential context of learning would be a person who wants to learn because of their past experiences. Idealistic context is something that a person who wants to explore new ideas with the hope of something new. These four contexts can help discover of what can inspire a person to learn. A person can find themselves relating to more than one context some adults may want learn in hopes of finding a new career or if they were unable to finish school when they were younger.
What motivates me to learn is somewhat practical but very personal. I do like the idea that when I do learn that it benefits me in the long run, but I had a goal few years back to obtain a degree. I started attending community college right after high school and I was on my way to obtain that degree that I wanted. As life goes on I got sidetracked and my focus was steered in another direction. Now I feel in this point in my life that it’s necessary to have a college degree because I want to have a career that I am happy about and not just work in order to get a paycheck. My biggest goal is to stay focus and to complete the task because I know it’s not going to be easy, I want to prove to myself that I can finished what I
