Mother Teresa - Do It Anyway
There are many people in this world that we consider great humanitarians. Many strive to accomplish great acts of compassion and support in an effort to solve the problems we face in our world. Mother Teresa was the opposite. Though she strived to fix many problems facing our world, she focused her efforts on small acts of kindness and other disregarded actions to show love and caring to the people she helped each day. She concentrated her efforts on improving the lives of those in need by imbuing their hearts with the knowledge that someone cared about who they were and what troubles they faced. She did not care if she was admired for her work but hoped that her efforts would serve as an example to aspire to. Her selfless acts promoted love, kindness, understanding and action throughout a world, which was desperate for someone who cared.
Mother Teresa pioneered a new way of looking at the poor, hungry and sick of our world. Her teachings of spreading love throughout the world in order to give the poor the simple dignity of human recognition and love were groundbreaking. The world responded to her message because it was achievable on an individual bases. We learned from her that each of us has the power to improve the lives of those around us. Her message is vital in an increasingly stigmatized world where the wealthy ignore the poor, hoping the problem will just go away. Using Mother Teresa's wisdom, each of us is given the opportunity to help those in need in any small way we can. With a smile and some kind words, understanding and respect, we can spread love and support to those desperate for affection and a helping hand.
Mother Teresa spoke fondly and often of simple acts of kindness and love which every individual can accomplish to better their world. She declared, "In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love."1 The small actions she spoke of encouraged the idea that helping those in need is not as daunting as it may

Martha Ann, my mother, was a very formidable woman with the generosity of a saint. She died when I was just 22, but she had already taught me to share whatever I had with anyone less fortunate. I remember her saying, “There is always someone worse off than you.” That one phrase has not only taught me to be thankful for what I have, it also taught me to remember those who are in need.…

By being a devoted nun, missionary leader, charity owner, and religious icon, she still managed to be committed to the poor. Sometimes though she was going through darkness, and she questioned heaven and even God. (Gajanhan) For example, if Mother Teresa found a baby that needed to be cared for, she would take it in even if there was no space left in housing for that baby. Another example, is that she always took in everyone who came to her, and never turned anyone away, even in the hardest of times. Since a young age, I have been exposed to the beliefs of trying to make a difference in the world through my mother's teachings. In 1989, my mother came from the Fiji Islands to America, seeking more opportunities. She took on low paying jobs to make ends meet, never giving up on her dreams of living in America. Since my childhood, she has always taught me the importance of being kind, generous, and playing an active role in the community. And after visiting my family in Fiji, I saw first hand what it meant to have those qualities—the kindness, generosity, and outgoing nature of the village. They also showed what it meant to be a part of a community by working together, farming the land, and cutting sugar cane to earn a living. Through my…

While on a study tour in India, I had an opportunity to visit Mother Teresa Orphanage, in the famous city Agra. Even though Agra is known for Taj Mahal, a symbol of love for his wife by Emperor Shah Jahan, appropriately Mother Teresa built this orphanage for her love towards the disabled kids who were abandoned by their parents in the same city. It was in that center while holding a six-month year old boy, it struck me profoundly how lucky and fortunate I am. I am blessed with a happy family where my parents are always there in time of need; my sister gives me encouragement to my daily life chores. The support and encouragement that I receive from my family and community have helped me to strengthen my resolve throughout my academic and extracurricular life and given me the inspiration to go out and seek excellent education that would make my parents and community proud. My parents, who are first generation immigrants from a third world country, always encourage me to give back to the community.…
