The most memorable event that I have been to was in 2006 when I went to a Harlem Globetrotters game with my family. The game was held at the Time Warner Cable arena and it was the first time that I have been in the Time Warner Cable Arena which made it even more memorable. When I first walked into the Arena I was in complete awe. At the time, I’ve never seen a place so big in person. So many seats, so many people and we were on the first row right behind the goal. I was on cloud nine and that was not even the best part. A man walking by who happened to be one of the coordinators of the whole event overheard my cousin and I trash talking to each other about who was a better player and who could shoot better. The guy came up to us and said “I like the trash talk. Want to settle it on the court?” And we both nodded excitingly. Apparently the guy was walking around the Arena to find two people to play in the halftime event and we just so happened to be the lucky two. The first half went great. The Globetrotters were amazing; performing all kinds of trick shots and alley-oops. One of my favorite parts of the game was listening to Showbiz, the “star” of the show joke around on the court and interact with the audience, which was hilarious. It was getting close to halftime and the same coordinator guy came up to us and brought us over the end of the Harlem Globetrotters bench, which was pretty awesome because for a few minutes we got to sit beside the players and watch them play courtside. Moments later, the bell rang for halftime and it was finally time for the halftime event. The objective of the game was to see who could make the shots in a minute, but the catch was that we were tied to a rope and a person from behind us pulled the rope while we shot making the task of making the basketball much more difficult. If it wasn’t for the rope I would have won the competition because I was the better shooter, but I was skinny

The best part of my freshman basketball team was traveling to different location with my team. While we travel on the road, we would often sing, and dance on the bus. Coach Belford would often go over plays with the team before the games on the bus. We would look out the bus windows to look at the new environment. Me and a couple of my teammates would stretch on the bus before the games. My favorite thing to do on the bus, was to listen to music. Listening to music always hype me up before the game. It was like pregame ritual for every game I played. Sometimes we would go out to eat after the games as a team. When we win most of the time we would sing are school anthem. Think about it now my freshmen basketball road trip were the best trip I had during my high school…

The whole crowd was booming in excitement as the score was Jay’s and Trey's, my team, 32 to the other team’s measly 10. I had over half the points in the first half, as I finished with 18 points. As the beginning of the second half begun, all eyes were on me. Nothing else even tried to enter my mind as I was deeply focused. I entered the game as a shooting guard this time, so I could get more open shots. At the beginning of that half, I had kind of slowed down to just regular Kaden, just controlling the game with good passing and aggressiveness. It wasn’t until the buzzer sounded that I knew it was time to go back to dominance. The other team had caught fire and brought the game back to a two point game, 42 to…

When I first arrived at Rotunda D I thought to myself great I get to stand the whole time because there is not one open seat. Dean Nickels started the event off by introducing Scott Naggy, head boys basketball coach. Naggy then talked a little about how they recruit players for South Dakota State University. He then introduced two of his players. The first was from the West side of Chicago, he talked about how he would play basketball to escape from the hardships of growing up in West Chicago. The second player was from Michigan, he explained how basketball was the main sport played in that area. He explained how the teachers there didn't care how the students do in there class they will just pass them to get rid of them. He…

The team would always get there an hour early so we could stretch and hit in the cage. We were noticeably the best team in the tournament. The coach of the team was a smart guy, he wanted to win but he didn’t want to embarrass anybody. This game didn’t really mean anything, and not to mention we were playing the worst team there.…

A memory from my athletics that will stick with me forever was the last time I was able to lace up and play basketball on our home court. We played a long time rival, Aquin. The game was down to the wire and I was able to tie the game with 24 seconds left. Then we got the ball back and Ellie was fouled with about a second left, which if anyone on our team were to be put on the line, I would choose her. She went up and swooshed the first shot! Then, since Aquin wouldn't be able to get the rebound, make it down the court, and shoot with the time left, coach told her to miss the second shot. Ellie then winded up and chucked the ball right off the backboard so they ended up getting the ball out of bounds anyway. We blocked the throw in, and I ran…

It was a fun game to watch, as we all thought about us playing on that court the next day. It was finally game day, and we had to play Stewartville, 2nd place from Minnesota. They were athletic, but we ended up winning the close match. Our next rival was the Bismark Thunder, 1st in North Dakota and last year's national champions. We were nervous since the were taller, stronger, faster, and just better than us. We lost to them, but we were fired up to play for 3rd place. The team headed over to the Target Center for the 3rd place game. Playing there was so neat, being under the lights, having them announce your name, and just being with the tam. We played Grafton, who placed 2nd at state in North Dakota. They looked like us, athletically, so we weren’t too worried. We came out with a bang, ready to play. Darby and Ellie pushed it up the court on fast breaks, giving us the early lead. Rilee and I played great defense on the post, as well as Marlee on the wing. Jenny came in and scored a couple before halftime. We were tied 17-17 at the half, and we knew we would have to work even harder. Halftime was over, and we played our hearts out the rest of the game. Mavis and Paige played great offensively, as well as Taylor on defense. We beat Grafton, 36-34, with Darby’s 1:00 left, 2-point shot. We were so happy that we had pulled off that win! We spent the next hour at the…

They were both stacked and crazy good. We weren't even supposed to be there as we where the number 5 seed . We beat the number 2 seed to go to the championship. Somehow the number 4 team beat the number 1 team and now we had to play them. Out of the 16 teams it came down to the number 4 and 5 to play in the championship game. There was never a bigger crowd than had ever been at any of our other games. There must have been 80 people and my whole family was there. We batted first with Karson there as the lead off hitter and gets a single. Mason goes up there and gets a single and escapes a double play. Few, they were both safe. Sam goes up there and strikes out. Then it was my turn. I bat in the 4th position so I am expected to always get a hit. I went up there and on the first strike they threw me I hit it 20 feet out of the ballpark. Everybody was cheering. I just hit a home run in a championship game! I ran around tapping every base base along the way. When I got to home plate the whole team was standing there waiting for me. As I touched home base my friends all started tapping on my helmet to celebrate. It was so much fun. As I headed back in the dugout to start eating my really good sunflower seeds that tasted like bacon and ranch. I was not aware of what I had really done. I was thinking to myself, “Did I really just do that ?” “Yes, I did!” Yeah, I’ve hit a lot of…

I think that was the epitome of what this event was. “Just going through the movements.” Being an athletic trainer, you know I realized there was no athletic trainer to be found, or any medical staff for that matter. Coaches were probably the first responders. A concessions stand was at least set up. Coaches, who wore different colored polos and nothing that said anything about their teams, were concerned about mingling with other coaches and officials in the pre-game. No announcers. Games were played in the SCSU field house and were officiated by officials who do this and high school basketball. Overall, the games were not that entertaining, lacked defense, and was just, “meh”. Also, as far as demographics, the players were about split; 60% white and possibly 40% African American. However, African American parents lacked in attendance; most of the spectators were white. I have a few suspicions why, but we’ll save that for a bit…

A mole is just another common mark on the body, which everyone has, so what’s the big deal, right? Well, some are just common markings, while others can be life threatening. My family learned this all too well back in February of 2014. It’s never a perfect visit to the dermatologist when you get a mole removed from your head, only to find out after testing that it was positive for melanoma. I remember a minor surgery was performed on the neck and two lymph nodes were removed to be tested. Great news everybody, they were found to be cancer free! Now, stop and think how many lymph nodes are in your body.…

It was a valuable learning experience to play with people I had never met, to acquire skills of the game from college coaches and to play on a higher level. It was an exciting week because the team on which I played won the championship. We were the best team at camp and our names were added to the list of The Best Samford Basketball Camp players. All of these basketball accomplishments eventually led to the day I decided that I wanted to play basketball for my high school team. I knew going into the tryouts that making the team was not going to be easy. I was confident that I had put many hours of practice time and effort into training for this very day, and I was prepared to give it my…

I couldn’t describe how I felt. I was astonished, I guess. We turned around, running to the other side of the court, and the crowd cheered again. Someone else made a basket too! This was the most exciting day of my life. I could feel my smile get the biggest and the brightest it had ever been. Then, I was guided to the other side of the court again and before I knew it I had made another basket. Sadly, and too soon, the game was over and everyone was cheering their heads off.…

When we arrived at the gymnasium everyone was so excited to get dressed and warm up on the big court. When I stepped out onto the floor I just stopped and took a look around to take it all in. I could smell the most buttery salty popcorn you could imagine lingering through the air. I could hear the sound of cheering and laughing from end to end of the court coming from all the fans. Everywhere I looked I saw the most vibrant colors of red spread out across the bleachers, fans from my hometown coming to show their support. It was so close to game time I could feel the rush going over my body, sweating heavily and anxious to get that first bucket.…
