• The most haunted building is the Beechworth Lunatic Asylum
• the Beechworth Lunatic Asylum is found in Victoria, Australia
• it’s former name was the Mayday Hills Lunatic Asylum
• It served as a mental hospital from1867-1995
• At it’s highest capacity, 1,200 patients lived there
• In it’s 130-year history, over 9,000 patients died inside it’s walls
• There is little doubt those souls haunt the asylum today
• Visitors are able to take a nighttime ghost tour at the asylum or even spend the night at the asylum • Today it is apart of the campus of La Trobe University and is run as a hotel and conference center • It was much easier to be admitted into the hospital, than to be released, therefor most patients never were released
• To be admitted, two signatures were required. To be released, eight signatures were required
• People who have visited say they heard mysterious screams throughout the halls and saw doors close by themselves
• They also claim to have seen many different ghosts
• Ghosts that have been spotted include, a figure of a man by the cellar who disappears in seconds. Matron Sharpe has also been spotted, she spent most of her life at the hospital. They have also claimed to have seen a grey hooded figure and an old man in a green jacket who is believed to be an old ground-keeper
