The developed ovi/larvicidal trap system is effective in attracting Aedes mosquitoes and at the same time lethal to hatched larvae

It is safe, cheap and make use of natural active agent

The process is simple and can control the population of Aedes mosquitoes

Laboratory Study

The Ovi-Trap System (OTS) with test solution was able to attract about 70% of Aedes Mosquito population as compared to 30% using
OTS with plain water
Oviposition response to different concentrations of aqueous solution showed three times better at 1000ppm and five times better at
2000ppm as compared to negative control;

    The West Nile Virus has helped NYC prepare for Zika by using similar techniques that have been successful in the past. Based on past experiences, we have learned that it is best to have good cooperation among the people of the department because it allows them to easily convey the risks of mosquitoes to the uneducated people. They are also able to educate us on the different types of mosquitoes and the harm that comes with them. For example, based on the study of the West Nile Virus, they learned that these mosquitoes carry Culex with them and that they can tolerate being trapped with carbon dioxide and light. However, Aedes albopictus (zika mosquitoes) aren't tricked by this because they mostly attack in the day. This past study of the virus…

    In the article, "When Mosquitoes Were Killers In America" written by Lauren Tarshis, the author states that mosquitoes are far worse than being a nuisance. There are many places in the article that back this statement. For example, the author writes something about how mosquitoes can easily spread a deadly disease called malaria. "In this way, bite by itchy bite, 212 million people are infected with malaria each year. Many live in crowded areas where mosquitoes easily spread the disease from person to person"(Tarshis 13). This is saying that in a small area, mosquitoes can easily infect people with a deadly disease. This is important because it shows an example of a piece of evidence to back up Lauren's statement. Plus, it shows how mosquitoes…

    ABSTRACT: Background: The introduction of West Nile virus in Canada is changing the perception that mosquitoes are nothing more than nuisance pests. Interest is increasing in ways to protect against mosquitoes. One of the commonest is the use of insect repellents. Methods: Tests were undertaken to determine the effectiveness of three mosquito repellents: 95% DEET, Avon Skin So Soft bath oil, and a “special mixture” of substances thought to have insect repellent qualities. The repellents were compared with each other and against a placebo in eight separate test sessions. During each session, the three repellents and placebo were tested simultaneously. Each session lasted between 90 and 120 minutes. After every session, the repellents were thoroughly washed from the test site and a minimum of 72 hours elapsed between tests. There were four test sites: the author’s right arm, left arm, right leg, and left leg. All test…

    Zika virus is a disease spread to people mainly through a mosquito bite. The mosquito has to be infected with Aedes Species. Aedes Species is the main character that spreads the virus that causes Zika. Usually the mosquito that carries the virus is a female. There are a number of symptoms involved with the disease. For example some common symptoms are a fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes. This is a mild illness where the symptoms can last for several days to a week after the initial bite. If you catch Zika, you may not show any symptoms at all. Studies have shown people rarely die from the Zika virus. Once a person has Zika and been infected, usually they did not get the disease again. Investigators have noted a surge in Julian-Barre syndrome in areas of the world that have experienced Zika…

    Treatment options have become increasingly inapplicable, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Widespread drug-resistance has developed toward the inexpensive and readily-available medications, such as chloroquine (Cox et al. 1999). Alternative medications available in Africa today have become too expensive for individuals and governments to afford. In addition, many individuals in Africa have limited or no access to a medical facility in their region, or may simply refuse to seek treatment. Thus prevention rather than treatment has become the focus across much of Africa. Rather than treating individuals already infected with malaria, the objective of vector control for prevention is to reduce the number and rates of infection by controlling the infected mosquitoes, thereby preventing biting and effectively lowering transmission rates. Successful implementation of a large-scale intervention effort requires participation locally and nationally, extensive information, as well as stable funding and resources.…

    This study aims to confirm that mosquito-repellent light bulbs do not work because of complaints from certain users saying that even though they use mosquito-repellent light bulbs, they still get mosquito bites. The purpose of the study is to provide consumer awareness so that they would spend their money on effective and useful products. The results of this study were purely based on the observational skills of the researchers. The experiment was performed using a wooden box covered by chicken wire, a mosquito-repellent light bulb, and a set of forty mosquitoes caught by using nets. The researchers observed the reaction of the said insect towards the light bulb for ten minutes. The mosquitoes were concentrated on the lower part of the box and only once did it hit the bulb. Comparing the results to the reaction of the mosquitoes towards a fluorescent light…

    The transmission of malaria can be reduced by preventing the bites of the female Anopheles mosquito by using mosquito nets and insect repellents. The spread of the population of mosquitoes, especially of that of the female Anopheles mosquitoes, can be drastically reduced and brought under control by spraying insecticides inside the houses and especially near the drainage systems, where the stagnant water provides an excellent breeding grounds where the female Anopheles mosquitoes lay their eggs. Malaria is a vector-borne disease. It is a contagious disease and is widespread in the tropical and subtropical regions. Currently, no vaccine is available for the treatment of malaria.…
