Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the leadership skills, life experiences, and controversy of Colin Powell
Thesis Statement: Colin Powell was well known for his leadership skills, life experiences, and controversy while serving as the secretary of state.
Introduction
I. When I hear the word role model, the first name that comes to mind is Colin Powell II. I have lots of memories of Colin Powell thru out my life and I also did some research about his life III. I would like to tell you about Colin Powell’s early years, his military career, political life, controversy, and what he is currently doing today.
When the name Colin Powell is spoken the first thing that comes to mind is leadership.
Body
I. Colin Powell achieved a lot in his early years a. The son of two Jamaican immagrants Luther and Maud Powell Colin Luther Powell was born April 5, 1937 in Harlem, NY b. Powell graduated from Morris High school in 1954. Attended City College of New York, where he studied geology which is where he found his calling in the reserved officers training corps a.k.a. (jrotc). c. After graduation in 1958 Powell was commissioned second lieutentant in the United States army. d. Powell also went on to get his master’s in business and administration at George Washington University. e. Powell married Alma Johnson in 1962 and fathered three children Michael, Linda, and Anna Marie.

Powell’s will to be successful led him to a great and historic military career.

II. Colin Powell had an outstanding military career f. During his first tour of Vietnam Powell was wounded by a booby trap while on a patrol earning him the purple heart , bronze star, and the presidential medal of freedom. g. During his second tour of Vietnam Powell was injured in a helicopter crash. 1. Despite his injury Powell managed to rescue his comrades from the
