Once Patria was sent away to school she realized being the religious one of the Mirabal family was indeed what she wanted, even if she had to disappoint someone of her family. Once Patria realized that the school was no longer suited for her needs, she then returned home to help Papa out with the farm. Patria later married the love of her life, and they had two kids; Noris and Nelson. During this time period it was a blessing from God to be blessed with the presence of another life. 1. St. Augustine wrote "Confessions" out of a desire to share the mysteries and circumstances through which he received and sustained his faith, and his sustained battles against earthly temptation. Furthermore, he chooses at various points to point out the fallacies of learned people as they "observe the covenanted rules of letters and syllables," while at the same time ignoring what the author perceives as the true gift of faith in action (11). In many ways, Confessions is a symbol of St. Augustine's own spiritual journey.…

Augustine taught grammar at Thagaste during 373 and 374. The following year he moved to Carthage to conduct a school of rhetoric and would remain there for the next nine years. Disturbed by unwell behaved students in Carthage, he moved to establish a school in Rome, where he believed the best and brightest rhetoricians practiced, in 383. However, Augustine was disappointed with the apathetic reception. It was the custom for students to pay their fees to the professor on the last day of the term, and many students attended faithfully all term, and then did not pay him. In the summer of 386, at the age of 31, Augustine converted to Christianity. In 391, Augustine was ordained a priest in Hippo Regius, in Algeria. He became a famous preacher, and was noted for combating the Manichaean religion. Augustine worked tirelessly in trying to convince the people of Hippo to convert to Christianity. Though he had left his monastery, he continued to lead a monastic life in the episcopal residence. Saint Augustine passed away on August 28, 430 at Hippo Regius,…

First, and most obvious, Monica Sone accounts for, in an autobiographical manner, the important events and situations in her life that helped create her self-identity. She recounts an event at the age of five, when she found out that she, "had Japanese blood." This recognition would spark the chain of many more realizations to come. Sone describes the relationships she had with her parents and siblings. She seems very pleased with and delighted by the differing, yet caring personalities of each person in her family. Sone describes herself as a typical American child: going to school, playing mischievously with friends on the block, reading, spending quality time with her family, etc. Monica described herself as a playful, almost tomboyish, young girl. She also saw herself as intelligent and hardworking. Throughout her novel, Monica describes events and experiences, which reveal her character and personality. However, if perceived solely as an autobiography, the major theme of this novel is overlooked.…
