Module 9 Case Study Questions 1 and 3

1. If I were starting a similar service, I would locate the business in Pensacola, Florida where I presently live. Florida would be the ideal place for the business in using the local credit union and having family members and friends here. To start additional stores in other states would depend on the state taxes, worker’s compensation, wages, and other legislation that should be taken into consideration. The building I would want to conduct my business would be leased. The lease building would allow funds to be used in other areas of the business whereas buying the building requires more.

2. Auction Drop could inform eBay and UPS users know they are available with guerilla marketing and blog advertising. Guerilla marketing and blog advertising are inexpensive methods that Randy should use. The text states that Auction Drop did not get anywhere near the volume they expected from the stores and Randy could not afford to advertise nationally.

To explain this, we should already know that in real life scenarios, stack increases to lower memory addresses, whenever program calls some function, the address of function call instruction is saved in stack as a return for the function. When the function executes, it allocates local variables, including buffers to stack and they are given a lower address than the return address. So, in this scenario the return address is a certain level above the base address for buffers and if the buffer is overflowing, then it is most likely that an attacker can change return address as well. If the return address is changed to some random value, then it will cause segmentation fault, but if the return address is changed to a certain address where some executable code is present, then that may complete attackers intended tasks with the application.…

Kathy routinely required her staff to work long arduous hours, with little time off or breaks. Kathy did not consult the workers on key questions therefore excluding them and not giving them ownership of the project they were working on. Kathy took full ownership of the project and used her workers as instruments and treated them as such instead of being empathetic to their needs and allowing them to be involved in the key parts of the project as owners because they were doing the majority of the work. To remedy this Kathy needs to develop a sense of team work and become a member of the team and work alongside her employees instead of as manager. This will create a sense of belonging and ownership among the workers and also build loyalty and make them all stakeholders in the…

Summit Distributors was in danger of violating loan covenants because of slow economic activity and forecasted losses and was faced with a choice. Changing the inventory valuation method from LIFO to FIFO would avoid default but would require higher future income taxes. Not changing could mean default on covenants, renegotiating loan terms at less favorable interest rates, or possible bankruptcy. Therefor even if we assumed no cash- flow consequences associated with the change, the answer would still be the same. The switch would prevent an unnecessary default on the bank loan if Prime Trust bank…
