A questioned document is any document that might be under question or suspected of being a forgery. Many times they can be letters, driver’s licenses and sometimes lottery tickets.
2. What is an exemplar? What are the best types of exemplars?
An exemplar is an original document that is used as comparison for the questioned document. The best types of exemplars are those that are like the questioned documents. For example if the questioned document is a letter written in pencil then the exemplar should be a letter written with pencil.
3. What are natural variations? Describe how these may happen.
Natural variations are the small differences in the handwriting of every person. This happens because each person learns to write a different way, the body get accustomed to this style and then makes it its own. That is why every person writes a different way.
4. How are stamped signatures different from written signatures?
Stamped signatures always come out the same because they are stamped. They stile they are written in never change. What does change is how hard the ink is pressed on the pad and on the paper.
5. What are some of the typescript machines that document examiners may have to investigate? Choose one of these machines and describe what document examiners may look for when comparing the machine to a questioned document.
A machine that would probably be needed to study is a printer. Every printer has a type of code that is unique to each, there are also different types of printers that print in different styles and this might be useful in finding what printer was used.
