I. Objectives:

1.) Familiarization with and use of a 5/3 lever-operated valve, closed center.
2.) Cylinder operation by a 5/3 lever-operated valve, closed center.

II. Experimental Procedure:

1.) Adjust the pressure regulator on the air supply (As) to 2 atm.
2.) Familiarization with 5/3 lever-operated valve, closed center.
3.) Closed center is obtained when the valve is not activated.
4.) Pushing the lever to one side will activate one state of air flow through the valve. Pushing the lever to the other side will activate the other state of the valve.
5.) Operate the lever in one direction and locate the blocked vent (impending air passage). Operate the lever in the other direction and locate the second blocked vent. Both orifices are released vents.
6.) Locate the orifice which, when connected to the air pressure, does not let the air escape from vents in both states of activation of the valve. This orifice is the pressure inlet.
7.) Introduce air into the pressure inlet and locate in each state of activation which orifice lets the air escape. The two orifices which allow air to escape are the cylinder ports.
8.) In view of the checks carried out, determine which state of valve activation performs B+ and which performs B-.
9.) Assembling the control circuit:
a. Connect the pressure inlet to one of the air supply outlets and open the supply valve.
b. Connect both cylinders ports of the valve to their respective ports in the cylinder.
10.) Operating the control circuit:
a. In view of the valve check, try to determine the cylinder position for each case of valve activation.
b. Operate the valve in one direction and compare results with your conclusions in the previous paragraph.

III. Results:

The 5/3 way level-operated valve is operated by means of using a lever instead of a push button we normally use. There are two springs found in the valve and by moving the lever back, it would cause the double acting cylinder to move to the
