Should mobile phones be allowed in school?

1.Introduction:

Your opinion should be obvious from your introduction. Try to avoid writing something like this: “In this essay I am going to write about whether science is a good idea. I think it is.” Don’t forget to show both sides of the argument.

Example: In this modern age, mobile phones have become an integral part of people’s life especially young adults. About 75 per cent of 12-17 year-olds now own mobile phones according to Pew Research Center. Nevertheless, should they be allowed to use their mobile phones in school? This question has been raised frequently and is still a matter of controversy. While I think that mobile phones should be banned in schools, they do have certain advantages.

2. Main body of essay: Arguments

In the next three paragraphs you should explain what you think the benefits of allowing mobile phones in school are. Try to deal with just one topic in each paragraph:

• Mobile phones are extremely useful in case of emergency (an accident, parents know where their children are, etc…).

• Mobile phones can be useful educational tools (to take notes, browse the internet, etc…)

• Mobile phones can be useful tools of communication (pupils sustain a healthy social life, parents can reach them at any moment, etc…).

3. Counter Arguments

In the next three paragraphs you should explain what you think the disadvantages of allowing mobile phones in school are. Try to deal with just one topic in each paragraph:

• Mobile phones can be dangerous (invasion of privacy, taking unauthorized photos, cyber bullying, etc…).

• Mobile phones can be a source of distraction in class (texting instead of listening to the teacher).

• Mobile phones can be used for cheating.

4. Conclusion:

In the final paragraph you should restate your opinion and summarise the most important points in your essay. It is a good idea to try to link
