Mission trip to Haiti My feet felt like they were walking on quicksand as I was walking down the hallway to the hatch. My nerves were bouncing off the walls. I have never been out of the country before, let alone with a bunch of strangers. The plane ride felt like it was so short because I didn’t know what my eyes would foresee when I landed. I was heading toward a country with one of the worst devastating earthquakes recorded, Haiti! The opportunity came to me when my church was signing up people for Mission of Hope to take a trip to Haiti on June 2012. They told us a couple of things that we would experience and do while on the trip. Nothing prepared me though for what I would see with my own eyes. Since our flights were running late I didn’t land in Haiti till dark. A bus came to transport my group to our camp site. Even in the dark misty fog you could see there were not many buildings. All you could see was outlines of tents and piles of rubbish. When my group arrived to the camp site we were shown our assigned rooms and instructed to get some sleep because tomorrow was going to be a busy day. The next day I was awakened by sunshine and a breeze of crisp air. The camp we were staying was by no means a Hilton Hotel, but the rooms had running water, ceiling fans, bathrooms, and electrical outlets. When taking showers we were instructed to cut off the water as often as necessary to try to conserve as much as we could. After everyone was done getting prepared for that day there was a group meeting where we got to meet the staff at Mission of Hope, the kids that live on camp, the translators, cooks, and interns. Everyone was very kind and you could tell how big their hearts were. In our group meeting I got to tell everyone a little bit about myself and my reasons for wanting to come out and volunteer. The staff explained to everyone through this progress, the goal is to show the Haitian people that God and church can help strengthen the villages and
