Mission Trip Research Paper
As it has been said by many, everything happens for a reason. Every single one of the events that occur in our daily lives has an impact and a specific effect. Some events stick out more than others to make you wonder the difference it made. “If I would’ve left 5 minutes earlier, I wouldn’t have gotten stuck behind that train” or “If I wouldn’t have came home that night, I could’ve been the one in that car accident.” Whether these decisions that change your life are regretful or thankful, there was a reason. My decision to go on a mission trip when I was 13 changed so much, definitely for the better. During the fall of 2010, my mom mentioned to me that I was old enough to go on my church’s annual mission trip with Catholic Heart Workcamp in the summer of 2011 to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She offered to …show more content…
My mom going on the trip calmed some of these nerves, but that didn’t change the fact that I was traveling 6 hours away to do service work with strangers for a week. I got to the camp, and the whole atmosphere put everyone in a joyful and loving mood. After all, we were at a Catholic camp, and the whole purpose was to be there to cheerfully serve the less fortunate, so the staff tried to make the best out of it as they could. I knew right at that first night that I was going to enjoy the week, but that is an understatement. I enjoyed it so much that I have been going on these trips every summer since then, to make 5 total trips to different cities around the United States doing unique service projects. The feeling of helping others in such a selfless way constantly rekindles a spark in myself when my own light goes out. Going on these trips always gives me such a rare feeling, that will last in me for months after I’m home from the trip, and as soon as I start to lose that feeling, it’s time for next summer’s trip already. The decision to go back every year is always a

Using groups of palm-thatches, they quickly built their village. The central plaza was where ceremonies, business dealings, and ballgames were held. The largest building was the council house that could hold up to 3,000 people. The council house was where the chiefs held their…

In my freshman year, I went to Ohio Mission Trip, which was led by Mrs. Lundquist. While I had an amazing life experience through volunteering, I was able to become closer to my friends and upper classmen. Darby and Sydney Lundquist also joined the trip, and they shortly introduced me about Washington and Lee University. I assumed the college should be very advanced since they were well-known for their excellence in intelligence and sports. This year I attended a college meeting with Mr. Webster to get to know more about the college. It was a great opportunity for me to grasp a big picture of the school as well as more specific details of admissions. I immediately fell in love with the school as Mr. Webster explained about the school in detail.…

It was not like they said it would be. Taking a cold shower from a pipe coming out of the basement wall of a seventy-five-year-old school was not fun. They said this would be the best week of my summer. Until I began writing this essay, I had never thought about the impact my experiences on Appalachian Service Project mission trips had contributed to my transition from childhood to adulthood. However, now I realize that not only was I affecting other people’s lives, but the work I was doing was also changing me. That was the best week of my summer, and so have the two following trips been that I have taken.…

It was then I had a sudden, shocking realization. Everyone who came, all thirty-five people, were here because of me and my vision to help the community. This project was born because of my idea of helping restore the church property and, hopefully, improve the relationship between the troop and the church. But, this was all mine and I took the helm and guided it through the murky, rough seas to get it to this point. I learned I could be a leader and both adults and my peers respected me, saw my dedication and determination, and followed my lead. This realization brought a smile to my tired, dirty face, and gave me a boost of energy to help me finish off the…

I’m always honored to do a flyer for ministries that have the goal of reaching those that are lost. I tend to put more time and effort into them than my other projects, because of my love for Jesus Christ. I decided I would start to attend these community sessions on Monday it was only for an hour from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. In the first session I was asked to pray for those that came and I did. This group reminded me of how I was when I came to Christ I wouldn’t let anything stop me from getting feed spiritually. Some of them were teenagers, others singles, some families, it was beautiful to see them desire more of God in their lives; hear the questions and then fellowship with them once the word was given, prayer ended.…

The camp consisted of girls from all over the world, including Kenya and Brunei. At the age of 13, I traveled from North Carolina to India independently. Traveling alone gave me the opportunity to spend time with myself, and rely on myself. It gave me a sense of pride and contentment. I had experienced loneliness most of my life, but it was different when I was sitting alone in an airport for 12 hours at such a young age. The traveling experience itself helped me mature and become more…

This question I encountered the most difficulty with, I have always believed in the idea that everything happens for a reason. However, in one occurrence I struggled for quite some time to see the blessing the situation had to offer me. As I finished my sophomore year in high school, my family’s financial struggle became more evident in that my single mother would not be able to send me away to college. We made the decision that I would graduate early to be able to work full-time, ultimately so I could save up for college. As the time came when all of my peers went away for college and I stayed home, I couldn’t grasp why this had to happen to me. As the months had passed, it became apparent that there was nothing I could do about the situation.…
