Miracle On Ice Analysis
The Miracle on Ice “Eleven seconds, now you've got ten seconds, the countdown is going on right now! Five seconds left in the game. Do you believe in Miracles?! YES!!! These words spoken by commentators Ken Dryden and Al Michaels, are perhaps the most famous words ever said in United States sports history. The Miracle on Ice, as it has been named, was perhaps the most phenomenal underdog win to ever occur. Perhaps I am biased on this subject because of the game of hockey and it's importance in my life, but to me this is the most thrilling and special occurrence in sports history. It is almost done with a blurriness to it. The texture of this whole painting looks almost as if it would have a bumpy feel to it simply because of the brush strokes and the blurriness illusion it portrays. The entire painting really only shows, from what I can see, three main colors. It shows a lot of blue, red and white. Which is obviously fitting because after all they are Team USA. Besides these three colors that take up just about the entire painting, we see hints of yellow in the background on the bottom of the boards, and we see a little bit of black from the team's skates. A little bit of tan can be seen on the players' hockey sticks whether they be in their hands or in the air from the celebration. There are definitely lines that separate throughout the painting but it is more of a soft line if that makes sense. All the colors almost blend together and are mixed in very nicely. What is so unique about this particular painting to me is the ice. Ice in every rink is painted white. There are lines of red and blue but the main surface is white. In this painting, Lopa has the whole ice surface blue and red. Almost as if the colors from the team's jerseys are bleeding out. I think the reason he does this is to show the importance of these colors and this game. The crowd in the background is made up of nothing but red and blue which gives a sense of the whole crowd almost leaking onto the ice.
